Globe Artichokes ....

A friend would like to grow Globe Artichokes as an architectural border plant and for the huge flowers.
I know you can grow them from seed but wonder if (like Jerusalem Artichokes, Asparagus, etc) you can purchase roots to speed up the growing periods ?
As with Angelika and Asparagus, they make striking decorative plants ......

You can absolutely buy artichokes bare root. Go to any home improvement store or nursery. You can usually find them when bulbs and other bare root plants (like roses) are available starting in the fall. You can also buy them online, but make sure you're dealing with someone reputable.
