It's sickening that this is still an issue.

Is this really a surprise?
I think your thread title is a bit misleading. While the GOP in Texas might be wasting their time pursuing this, the GOP where I live and our Republican governor are not.
THE GOP'S (AS IN NATIONAL) 2016 PARTY PLATFORM.pdf
So? Candidates are under no obligation to run on their party's platform or to endorse every plank in it, and many do not, including th ePOTUS and the governor of the state in which I live.

It's still revealing, and more than a little scary, that a major political party would openly proclaim this as their platform--apparently without any significant pushback within their own ranks.
It's always seemed to me that the people who serve on the platform committees tend to be the extremists as far as party ideology goes. In the GOP you have the clowns who put crap like this in the platform, and the Democrats drop "rare" from safe and legal in their advocacy for abortion. I don't think such views represent the majority views of either the nation or within the party.

Pretty irrelevant if you're going to pursue the policy anyway.
Well, for STARTERS, there's Trump's v.p. pick, Mike Pence, a believer in "gay conversion therapy," and Trump has already reversed the transgender bathroom directive, AND there's Trump's anti-gay cabinet picks:

Trump’s Cabinet a who’s who of homophobia - The Boston Globe
So arguments as to how they won't be following their party platform and pursuing an anti-gay agenda amount to so much BULLSHIT... imo.
Additionally Trump has promised to appoint a Supreme Court pick that will reverse Roe vs. Wade. Expect as soon as his pick is on the Court and particularly if he gets another pick some "pro-fetus" state will enact a law they hope lands in the Court to finally undo a woman's right to choose.
How Trump’s Supreme Court Could Overturn Roe v. Wade Without Overturning It
I sure hope so!
