Taking a poll of 1000 people isn't scientific at all. Remember, the polls predicted Dewey defeated Truman.
Considering the refusal of the public to take responsibility for their own actions, the poll results come as no surprise. Until the public becomes super vigilant watchdogs of the government, public opinion will continue to be as indecisive as a drunk nympho in a room full of big dicks, and she only gets to screw one man.

You are correct though it really makes no difference....
Only 13 percent of the American public approves of how Congress is doing its job, according to a new Gallup poll.
So, youre telling me that the low congress approval rating is still low? OK... still doesnt mean much in regards to the thread.

Taking a poll of 1000 people is statistics. It isnt perfect, but it is an idea of the public opinion, and generally is quite accurate. Statistics and their ability to get a good sample has improved TREMENDOUSLY since the 50's, so citing that as a "statistics is wrong" is just not smart. The only reason to doubt the validity of statistics is if the source is questionable. If you see a poll from a media company (ie: news channel), the odds are high that the poll is somewhat rigged to be in favor of what they want.

If you want an example of this rigging, watch this video, yes its in regards to a petition, but the same question leading applies to any given poll, and happens based upon the wording of the question

You just love statistics don't you? It is ridiculous to think that polling 1000 people in a nation of over 300 million would give you an accurate result. The people who really want you to believe it is so are making big bucks off of polls. Well those, and the people who are trying to sway public opinion.

I was browsing through the bookstore a couple months ago and I saw a book on how Obama's presidency would cement Democrat power for the next 40 years.

I love math in general, because it is amazing what you can do with it. If you think that polling 1000 people for 300 million doesnt get a reasonably accurate result, thats your opinion... but ask any mathematician/statistician and they will disagree.

The trick is that you do not ask 1000 random people but 1000 carefully selected people chosen to represent all the important groups within a country. You use your existing knowledge, So at a guess you dont bother polling staunch followers of either side because you already know how they will vote. You ask the don't knows or ones who are likely to swing either way, because it is those people who will decide the outcome. The same principle the parties use and why they direct themselves to minorities who may change sides.
