Hahahahah Thank God I didn't. I heard about it on the BBC broadcast of my local NPR station while driving home. They were speaking to someone from Vanity Fair but was not mentioning any names. When they said he wrote BEN HUR, I was thinking surely they are not speaking of VIDAL, who is always so full of vitality. When they said how much he despised conservatives and how he mocked BUSH & co constantly, I KNEW they were speaking of Gore Vidal and I did tear up.
We have lost two great thinkers and writers in just a few months time. The best minds of our time, first Christoper Hitchens and now Gore Vidal ............... RIP you flaming liberal :tongue::tongue:
86 is a good life.
I admired Vidal a lot, but in recent years, he was becoming a parody of himself.
That said, there is so much writing ... particularly many of the essays ... that I love to go back to again and again.
Part of the longish route for me learning to be OK with my same sex feelings was reading gay-themed fiction. One of the many such books I read was The City and the Pillar. A great read.
Plus, he was a long time resident of Ravello, Italy which is an incredibly beautiful place.
