A trained coloratura soprano should be able to sing this. In pop you only hear the whistle register, which is not the same high notes that a trained singer does.

Thanks. I'm a big fan of that for some reason. The name of the song is Lucia di Lammermoor. Here's another surprising rendition:

Vitas Bucam or Bucam Vitas. I forget which.

Fur real? There's parts there (on Fifth Element) that sound clearly sampled. It may be her voice, but they ran it through a keyboard for a few of those riffs when it gets jazzy.

I agree it certainly sounds it. I've also read and agree that there's a part during the techno bit where it sounds like a reed instrument is giving her a boost. Notably around 4:12 & 4:18 of the first Inva clip.

    Maybe the liner notes lie.

Except possibly for missing out on the revenue stream, I wonder if Dame Joan Sutherland is feeling slighted by the ‘techno’ world?

This would make a nice Christmas gift, perhaps...

It includes the ‘Mad Scene’ from Donizetti’s opera Lucia di Lammermoor

Joan Sutherland sings from Lucia Di Lammermoor (Mad Scene included) Ernani; I Vespri Siciliani; Linda Di Chamounix: LP - SUTHERLAND, JOAN
