My first grey sweatpants were bought from the uni student union shop. They were just plain light grey, no pockets, no logo, no other decoration, just plain grey, drawcord and and elastic ankles. Since then never found any like that, they've all had pockets, side or rear or both, or some other designer decoration, and (often stupid) logos. Hoodies can be plain, but pants never these days. I had a plain grey crew sweatshirt at the same time, and later bright red both top and bottom in same style.

Anyone know where total plain grey sweatpants can be got these days. I've trawled amazon, ebay, etc over and over, never found any, and that includes changing the domain from dot co dot uk to dot com etc to vary the search.

You describe my favorites!

I'm not sure if they are available in the UK, but Russell Athletic still makes such a style, in 50/50 cotton poly blend:

Men's Dri-Power® Closed Bottom Fleece Sweatpants (No Pockets) | Russell Athletic

No pockets, elastic bottoms, just a tiny logo but no other printing. They do have a drawcord, however as is the custom on traditional men's styles in the USA, it is on the inside. If you prefer the outside-bow look, you can easily cut a small hole (slit) in the outside of the waistband to expose it on the outside. Or just flip over the waistband, which makes them fit a bit snugger, too.

Colors include Navy, Black, and three shades of gray, from dark to light. The fit is very generous; so considering sizing down, particularly if you want to "show."

I'm about to pull on an old, well-worn pair, and sport a nice swinging bulge mowing the front lawn...

I think Champion used to make them as I had a couple of pairs (grey, dark blue). Not sure if they're still sold but I xan't imagine why not.
