I know the answer! Its in Europe...
How funny I was just having this conversation during dinner a few nights ago. I think it's
According to the World Bank and based on GDP it is Monaco.
Rank Countries GDP per capita (in USD approx)
1 Luxembourg 95,000
2 Norway 77,000
3 Qatar 75,000
4 Switzerland 66,000
5 Denmark 55,000
6 Ireland 51,000
7 Netherlands 47,000
8 United Arab Emirates 46,000
9 United States 46,000
10 Finland 45,000
Pissed of that Luxembourg took our nr1. I'm Norwegian, we'we always been nr 1. DAM IT!!
Anyone guess the price of a big glass of beer in Norway? Or a pack of marlboro's?
I thought Liechtenstein as well. There are a lot of near-do-wells and posers in Monaco. Do you know they even have subsidized housing? Presumably for down on their luck descendants of Russian nobility.
But the place is well off, no doubt and I've not seen any bag ladies camped out round Port Hercule.
In fact it is so rich maybe they don't even need a GDP! Nothing is produced there, that's for damn sure.
I guess there is the Casino; that rakes in a few Euros.
I'm not sure it's something worth worrying about.
6th might be the position for Ireland just before its South Sea Bubble burst, but it sure cannot be now.
Okay, now which is the poorest?
Tintin, is there a point to this thread, or is it simply some passive-aggressively anti-American masturbation (much akin to your other thread)?
That's what I was thinking.
I thought it would be Switzerland, tbh. I'm sure I remember reading that sometimes over the last year.
Apparently, (according to Newsweek) Finland is the best country in the world to live in - based on various factors, including Education, Health, Quality of life, Economic Dynamism, etc... Norway, Switz, Australia are all quite high too.
The UK was 14th - but 4th if you only count highly populated countries.
Bhutan measures Gross National Happiness - perhaps that's smarter than measuring GDP?
I would think twice about paying more than £2.50 in UK (3.9USD)
I guess around £5 ?
I know it's damned expensive
You do realise that it's not quite as bad as Haiti here yet don't you?
Lol. What about Honduras, then? :biggrin1: *runs*
(even tho neither are in the South Sea, lol).
Oh I think we're modelling ourselves on somewhere like Iceland or Estonia really
I don't know who the richest countries are, but the richest government in the world now is CHINA (with National reserves of $2,454,300,000,000 ) The only European government in the top 10 of that list is Switzerland at No.8, after India and South Korea!!!
Why would you come to that conclusion? His other thread was not passive aggressive. It was very direct and in your face and critical of the USUK war on Iraq.
This thread is just some Norwegian flag waving over their high GDP. Which doesn't mean much when you are just pumping your wealth out of a hole in the ground.
So don't worry, America is rich too. LOL
