Seriously, stop being an ignorant twat.

Amazing how many American's are under the impression that they swooped in at the last minute and won the war. Their contribution can not be denied, but please, learn some history before making these claims.

P.S When polled, the majority of Americans think they won the war of 1812 against the British and what would eventually become Canada.

All this thread has done for me is help make it clearer how someone like Trump could get elected in the USA. I love travelling to the USA. I've met wonderful people. Some of the scenery and National Parks are second to none. But I've met people that are proud that their state is a "right to work" state....Lower wages for everyone! Yah! Are afraid of healthcare reform and think Trump is a good man. I can't think of any country that is such a mass of contradictions. A world leader in so many way and so repressed and backward in just as many. So much flag waving and bravado but not always the facts to back it up. I guess if you shout "we're the best/number one" often enough you believe it. Those who cling to there right to free speech seem to usually want to use it to hurt others. The American Dream/Anything possible ideal is praised but any idea of giving someone a helping hand is branded as "socialism". Many it seems want to believe it's equal for all but are just as quick to throw someone under the bus rather than help them. They cling to the bible and completely forget the fight to separate church and state from their history. These are generalizations of course and are not meant to offend. It's just an outsiders view of what should be so much better than it is.

And now the USA has voted against a UN declaration condemning the death penalty for homosexuality!!!

A survey by YouGov -- a for-profit research firm that conducts all sorts of online polls -- found that 41 percent of those queried think dinosaurs and humans "probably" or "definitely" once co-existed on Earth at the same time.

So Tom Petty has left us - and that should have been Tuesday's sad news story. But it wasn't. And it wasn't because the world's supposedly most powerful nation can't get its house in order. The United States of America has become a society inured to carnage perpetrated on its own citizens by its own citizens. The 2nd Amendment supposedly says every American has the right to bear arms, and bear them they will! They will shoot dead all who threaten them because it is their God-given right to defend themselves with firepower. Guns have become America's sickness, its cancer. But nothing will change because Americans love their Second Amendment. They love their gun shops and their target ranges and their 'personal security'. And when acts of terror are almost daily committed by their own citizens, Americans express momentary horror. But momentary only. Nothing is going to remove their right to bear arms. Nothing. A sick society dying a slow death .

Not a surprise but just so sad.

White House on gun control: "New laws won't stop a mad man"
From CNN's Jim Acosta:

CNN has obtained White House talking points — guides released to anyone related to the administration who may speak in public — on the Las Vegas shooting and gun control.

Here are the highlights:

  • "The President believes that our founding principles, like freedom of speech, freedom of religion and the right to bear arms must be protected while maintaining public safety."
  • "When it comes to gun control, let's be clear: New laws won't stop a mad man committed to harming innocent people. They will curtail the freedoms of law abiding citizens."
  • "We've seen terrorist attacks committed with knives, by people driving cars into crowds, and hijacking plane."
  • "And some of America's cities with the strictest gun laws have the highest rates of gun violence." Chicago and Baltimore are cited as examples.
  • "We've had examples where concealed carry has allowed people to protect themselves and stop a mass shooting in its tracks."
  • "We welcome a reasoned and well-informed debate on public safety and our constitutional rights, but we reject the false choice that we can't have both."

Deliberately altering my words to make it seem like I said I don't love my country, however, is (imo) going a bit TOO far.

I will say again, I altered nothing. If alt-left Mods find otherwise, I'm sure they will let me know and I'll spend my valuable time elsewhere.

What point is this post trying to convey?

Terrorists kill people. Banning guns is ultimately unhelpful unless you also ban airplanes, ammonium nitrate, automobiles and a bunch of other things. This guy clearly planned many details about the attack and could have used other mechanisms (including the airplane as pointed out here).

If the shooter was looking to kill the most people he could have used his plane. He appears to have been making a political statement killing country music fans (Trump supporters) with rifles. He also had bomb making material but chose to use the less efficient rifle than the bombs or the plane.

Seems we have an answer already to who knows what about guns, and it seems that you know jack shit.

I don't expect any humble pie on your part.

And BTW, you don't know much real history beyond the mythologising. The militia were generally considered a waste of time by your proper generals. As you would be against your own professional armed forces now.

Hmmmmm you either don't know how large a typical AR-15 is, that it breaks down, or you are very poor at packing suitcases. You better call California Closets and get organized. You must be one of those horders they show on those cable TV shows.

How condescending. It is no surprise that Sargon (an American) would like your post. I guess us backwoods Americans are too dumb for your Canadian sensibilities. Luckily we don't seek your approval. But you've got to ask yourself, what would Canada be without the USA? What would the world be without the USA?

As always, cries of being "misrepresented," but HIS quotes of others are always real and accurate. Amazing how that happens.

your attempt to paint the shooter as a Muslim backfired spectacularly, so now you're attempting to claim he "appears" to be anti-Trump and liberal based on zero evidence? Two can play at that game. He's a 64 year old white guy with a gun fetish who was rumored to be abusive to his girlfriend. Sounds like his profile matches that of a Trump *supporter*.

If the official reports wind up concluding that he was just a crazy and violent man who went on a rampage, are you going to cry "cover-up"? Are you one of those guys who claims Sandy Hook was a anti-NRA conspiracy ?

Old white guy with a gun fetish and violent tendencies attacking Republicans, sounds like the DC shooter. Liberals are known to be violent. I won't be surprised if it turns out he was involved with both ANTIFA and ISIS (local Vegas cops are leaking info to this effect based on what was found in his room). Maybe we can get Industriallies to check the ANTIFA membership rolls for us.

Oh please. Where did you get *this* information now? Can you provide a link this time? Or was it reported live on KLAS again?
