For everyone who wants to repeal the second amendment. Tell me, how are you going to do it? If the Democrats had any balls, (And they don't) they should stop tip toeing around the issue and come out and say it. You want to ban all guns and confiscate them. Just be honest. I heard nothing from Hillary or the typical Democratic peanut gallery when we had the truck incident in New York. They actually allowed the bodies to cool off this time before making any statements offering Thoughts and Prayers instead of pouncing on a tragedy when guns are involved. Goes to show, it ain't really about safety. Wake up.

Since we will not evolve with the new reality and continue to put our heads in the sand, continue to be sitting ducks. Continue to push for laws that will not work, or in this case, will not enforce the laws (Thank you USAF) and believe Gun free zones will work. Why don't they (Democrats) come out and just say it and own it. No bullshitting this time. Don't be sneaky, just come out and say it and see how it works out for them. I didn't vote for trump. Don't like him at all. The Dems had a majority at one point during the Obama years and did nothing. Now they and Hollywood wanna blame the Republicans. That's bullshit. They had 8 years to do it and they did nothing. The NRA is as powerful as a dance club. They are a lobby, that's it. If they were so powerful as the Democrats put it, then why is California passing one restrictive gun law right after the other. The NRA is powerless. They can't stop them. Since we flat out refuse to do what it takes to be prepared against this common threat and think another law will stop this, (Armed, Trained Citizens) Then go for the total ban and confiscation. Because another active shooting situation is going to happen again. I got a million dollars on it. That's how confident I am. Go for the total gun ban because I know deep down inside you lefties want it. Try it. I fucking dare you.

I don't care what you bet on. I don't care how confident you are. I don't believe in a total gun ban or in confiscation. I am a lefty but I don't want a total gun ban. I don't want to repeal the second amendment. Take your dare and shove it, because your post doesn't add anything to a discussion of 'active shooting situations'.

There will be more mass murders and more single murders where a gun is the means of the murder(s), not the cause. There is no 'new reality' that you speak of. Your resort to metaphor--'put our heads in the sand', 'continue to be sitting ducks' isn't colorful, insightful, or particularly effective--it's just babble. Saying the 'NRA is as powerful as a dance club' is, well, just plain goofy.

Finally, in your outburst, you seem to try and make a point-- 'Since we flat out refuse to do what it takes to be prepared against this common threat. Pray tell, sir what exactly do you mean when you write 'do what it takes to be prepared...'? Exactly what do you think 'doing what it takes' is? It's as though you know but don't/can't articulate what that is.

Come back to the discussion when you can offer a definite, concrete suggestion.

Yet another massacre of innocents , this time in a church in Texas . I can hear the anti gun crowd already , backed by the media , who will literally wring the last , sad drop out of this . Meanwhile , if you own a gun , or aspire to owning one , however law abiding you may be , you will be a figure of revulsion , and someone to be harangued , persecuted , vilified , ridiculed , and mistrusted , by these " peace loving " , thinly disguised " social dictators " , who have the unmitigated gall , to assume that they know what's best for the rest of us . As it happens , i am NOT going to purchase my new new guns , in the foreseeable future . Instead , if i catch some peace of shit in my ,home , stealing my car , or committing any other kind of criminal activity at my expense , I do have an extensive cutlery collection , or , failing that , just send him off for a chat with God , via my bare hands . And yeah , that's a one way trip .

As Trump has his own agenda on gun control (and millions of dollars for his re-election campaign coming from them) now is never going to be a good time to talk about gun control.
How come after Las Vegas it wasn't the time?
When will there ever be a time.
Trump doesn't car how many people go out and slaughter each other (after all he's trying to make war with NK) just as long as he has a handle on which to hang the excuse for such slaughter, hence the Texan guy had long term serous mental problems (not proven to date) but the Las Vegas shooter was a rich white guy so no comment, he's picky is Trump about why he will condemn violence. The New York van murders is a good case, someone to blame - in this case he could also blame the previous administration which was a double bonus - as well as being more ammunition for his Muslim ban.
Trump is a vile creature who will use anything to bolster his own agenda - whatever that is, lies and misdirection his means.

It's not anti gun, it's pro control.

Do you need to have the difference explained?

Does anyone miss Bullies opinion on this subject? Or the Trauma Queen? Bit of a one way street now...*sigh* :)

Not making levity of the situation, I have been quite a strong contender in the case for some sort of automatic gun restriction.

But just for this forum....

"Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-California, had introduced a bill to ban bump stocks in the upper chamber. It currently has 39 co-sponsors -- all Democrats -- but she continues to look for a Republican co-sponsor."

I can see how Democrats introducing legislation to try and address workarounds for existing bans on fully automatic weapons could be perceived as Democrats trying to seize all firearms from all people... if... you know... you're a fucking imbecile.

Please let your parents they have my sympathy for your disability.

To reiterate my point earlier in this thread, how many mass shootings do you think would happen in America if gun ownership laws were the same as the UK?

Just saying - again
And saw his speech in SK today and wow, toned down maybe but the man is a thug and bully and frankly if I were a North Korean.... talk about keeping diplomacy open - claiming progress is being made - to keep NK in its place - suggesting they give in their arms race - what about Israel and other countries all hell bent on "the bomb" and why should the USA be entitled to be the only one to have it (along with etc etc etc etc_

I don't see gun laws as an 'either- or' situation. Most mass shooting are done with semiautomatic weapons. The victims are fish in a barrel to killers.
If the killers had limited rounds and had to operate a a lever or bolt action riffle it would at least give people an opportunity to take or seek cover.

ummm-
israel has "the bomb"
we gave it to them
long time ago
Yes but its supposed to be a secret, and they incarcerated a journalist (kidnapped him in fact to bring him to trial but hey, Israel is allowed to get away with anything) and when he was released he was put under strict controls and contact regulations, and, from the way the various factions of religious zealots are behaving their it might not be that safe,

wtf is plain sight, had to look it up duh
no F'n excuse, prefer the common well known
the odd person is gun crazy, uses it asan excuse to make a name for themselves, like Trump

Why does the U.S. have so many mass shootings? The answer lies in plain sight, research suggests.

When the world looks at the United States, it sees a land of exceptions: a time-tested if noisy democracy, a crusader in foreign policy, an exporter of beloved music and film.
But there is one quirk that consistently puzzles America’s fans and critics alike. Why, they ask, does it experience so many mass shootings?

Yes, guns, guns, guns. Control them, and--but wait! Airliners, trucks, cars, IEDs have been the means of mass murder and terrorism here in America as well. And not just America: European countries have stricter gun laws, but can't exactly control who drives motor vehicles (London, Nice, etc.) or gets a pilot's license and takes an A320 German Wings airliner into a mountain side, or who can purchase the ingredients to make TATP or purchase nails and ball bearings to use as lethal shrapnel. And no one should have a cell phone that can be used as a remote detonation device, for that matter.

And unfortunately, there is the unfortunate likelihood of dirty bomb attacks we are still wrestling with preventing. It's mass murder and terrorism that we must address.

And as for @cherryboom66's post 'I'm in the UK and I have never seen a gun up close.', that may be in significant part because the British people have historically been 'subjects' of the crown (until 1949), which makes for a different sociopolitical attitude toward authoritarian control and regulation, such as owning lethal weapons.l know, I know, Britain is now a constitutional democracy, but that evolved: America was started as an armed-citizen insurrection against British authoritarian government. Guns were an instrument of an individual's survival on a wilderness continent wresting, however rightly or wrongly, a vast portion of the US from other indigenous or colonial populations, and reestablishing the Union in the Civil War. Guns is part of who we as Americans are. Our anthem celebrates the rocket's red glare and bombs bursting in air.

Our mythology is gunslingers and gangsters, Remingtons, Colts, tommy guns, and more. We do not celebrate the 'tac knife' or the bludgeon.

A citizen's right to possess and bear arms is (as it's been legally interpreted) part of our amended constitution. This is NOT so for Europeans.

I've posted before that I think there are some things which need to be done to understand and hopefully limit gun violence, and I won't repeat them here. But murder and terrorism won't be ended by eliminating the gun.
