How so....explain
Living in a house with a gun increases your odds of death
It’s an unnecessary risk.
Guns can kill you in three ways: homicide, suicide, and by accident. Owning a gun or having one readily accessible makes all three more likely. One meta-analysis ”found strong evidence for increased odds of suicide among persons with access to firearms compared with those without access and moderate evidence for an attenuated increased odds of homicide victimization when persons with and without access to firearms were compared.” The latter finding is stronger for women, a reminder that guns are also a risk factor for domestic violence.

The same thing is true for accidents. States with more guns see more accidental deaths from firearms, and children ages 5 to 14 are 11 times more likely to be killed with a gun in the US compared to other developed countries, where gun ownership is much less common. About half of gun accident fatalities happen to people under 25, and some recent analyses suggest that the official count of gun accident deaths among children is understated.

I'm a woman, and I'm a gun owner. I own them because I did in fact grow up steeped Owning a firearm doesn't make you safer, it actually makes you more likely to get shot.

Ion a site that constantly reminds people
People to speak for themselves and not others......

But I take issue with the ....you....and your

I am not at all more likely to get shot cause I own a gun....
I am not remotely suicidal
I am not going to be victim of domestic violence
I do not have small children in my home

Further more....I have had jobs the REQUIRED having loaded firearm on my person for about 7 years.....not a single indecent of accidents....I'm well trained in safety

Would I love a violence free world..YES

But that's not the world we live in....

So in a world of government sponsored violence....30 minute police response times....or worse ...police do show up

Screenshot_2019-05-15-18-05-28.png

So for my personal security....I know who won't let me down.....I know who is careful

I bet on ME....

You might feel different....but you probably know yourself better than I do

Let's just say, no one knows themselves as well as they think they do.

I never thought I'd have suicidal thoughts. I've had them in recent weeks.

Don't be so sure, of anything, ever.

That's all I have to say. I don't have the energy for this section anymore.

Here is the thing

Not EVERYONE is 'you"

But virtually EVERYONE "thinks" that they are

Or knows that they are not and do not give fuck that they are not.

In their minds being able to pull that trigger is enough and if it all goes bad it is "oh fucking well" and if they are in a "red state" like AL or GA they can "accidentally" kill someone and NOTHING will happen to them

How many instances of kids, in red states mostly not even old enough to be in grade school getting their hands on loaded guns and KILLING someone only to have "no charges filed" to know that is TRUE

NEWS
Swiss voters favor tightening gun laws
Swiss voters overwhelmingly voted to bring the country's gun laws into line with EU legislation. The country's government had warned a 'No' vote could sour relations with the EU.

Official preliminary results showed that 63.7% of voters gave their backing to new EU gun laws, including tighter controls for semi-automatic weapons. A majority of voters in all but one canton, the Italian-speaking Ticino in southern Switzerland, came out in favor of reforming Swiss gun laws.

Switzerland votes on changing gun laws to fit with EU rules
Voters must decide whether to accept new EU gun laws, including tighter controls for semi-automatic weapons. Switzerland risks dropping out of Europe's open-border Schengen area if the referendum is rejected.

Swiss voters are casting their ballots on Sunday in a referendum on tightening the country's gun lawsto comply with rules from the European Union.

Although Switzerland is not an EU member, it could fall out of the open-border Schengen area if it does not change its gun laws — prompting serious backups at its borders and potential consequences for its economy and tourism industry.

What’s the White House doing? President Trump wants to sell more arms, which is why he handed responsibility for weapon exports from the State Department to the Department of Commerce, which has more relaxed regulations.

American Guns Are Flooding Latin America
Latin America has a gun problem — thanks to the United States. In Mexico, experts estimate that 70 percent of firearm crimes are committed with American-bought weapons, along with half of last year’s 33,000 homicides. In Honduras, half of all unregistered weapons come from the U.S., while large stocks are smuggled into Brazil from Paraguay.

Read this OZY story about how Honduras halved its killings in five years.

It's the global economy. When the American market is under pressure to reform, like cigarettes, the manufacturers simply flood the foreign markets to keep making money.

I think the arms manufacturers should somehow be held culpable for the carnage they profit from.

Confession: My job position is a political appointment. There are many times when I can't speak my mind--and probably shouldn't be speaking at all. A man's got to stand for his principals, but a man's also got to put food on the table.

But I am raging inside about the whole gun culture in the U.S. As far as I'm concerned, no one in the U.S. should have the right to own a firearm. The Second Amendment shouldn't even exist. I'm sick of the bullshit. I'm sick that people--children--are dying so that Americans can maintain their false right to own firearms. It's all bullshit. Over and over again, it's bullshit.

Yeah that worked out for all of the Jews and works so great in England and other socialist countries today.

I was born with a God given right to protect myself and my family by any means necessary. Every law abiding citizen should own a gun or ten.

Barf. "God" doesn't give you rights. They're a human construct. Are you saying that the Jews wouldn't have suffered in WWII if they'd had guns?? Do you really think they'd have been able to stand up to the Nazis? You'll notice that other 'Socialist" countries have nothing near the gun death rate that the USA has.
I know that no argument EVER works against gun owners. Might as well argue with a wall, but what do you say to the parents of children killed in mass shootings? or the ones whose parents don't lock up their guns? Would you insist on your right in the presence of a parent holding his dying child?

They would have had a fighting chance at least, and to me that's much better than being led to a slaughter house like a flock of sheep.

Look at Chicago, they have some the strictest gun laws in the country and they have the highest rate of gun violence and murders.

You can have my guns but you'll get my bullets first.

Chicago borders Indiana which has no gun control laws. There isn't a wall between the 2. Massachusetts has some of the strictest gun laws and is the second lowest in gun violence, behind Utah.
