I agree!!!Truly one of the most beautiful men Hollywood has ever seen.
We could summon the spirit of Rory Calhoun and ask him. They had quite an affair. No doubt he was a great fuck..
Guy Madison, 1940's film satr and 50's TV star- Wild Bill Hickock series, client of Henry Willson- Rock Hudson's mentor/agent....reportedly bisexual, relations with Willson and Rory Calhoun- Willson told stories that he caught Guy and Rory (both his clients, who he re named) in the back of a Jaguar fucking- Guy bottoming for a hung Rory....Willson said Guy had average equipment....

Willson was forever taking his own pictures of Madison that most of us have never seen. When movie columnist Sidney Skolsky saw one shot of Madison, it's said he coined the term beefcake.
In the mid-late 40s Francis McCown joined Willson's agency. He was tall, dark and handsome, agreeable and eager to make a name for himself on the silver screen. First his name was changed to Rory Calhoun (after Francis rejected the name Troy Donahue) and then Willson gave him the rush just as he had Madison. Willson sent them out together with two starlets they hardly knew to be seen and photographed at the Mocambo. Willson was a good teacher and soon both men were pretty cocky which Willson didn't like. He had more to be concerned with when the young actors began sleeping with one another. Willson made a habit of spying on them.
What Willson didn't much care for was how indiscriminate the two had become. One did not do as one pleased in 1940s Hollywood. By and large, morals clauses in studio contracts kept stars on the up and up. Calhoun may have had quiet liaisons with some men but women turned out to be his main focus. Madison preferred the boys. Both needed to keep their private lives more private. Soon Willson insisted his two handsome studs get married and both obeyed and both married actresses. In 1948 Calhoun married Lita Baron and Madison married Gail Russell a year later.
In 1949 Madison and Calhoun went off to Arizona to make their only picture together, Massacre River, a standard cavalry v.s. the Indians horse opera. I got a kick out of it knowing the boys were still getting a kick out of one another, marriages be damned.
JFC! I watched movies and TV all my life hoping to see any sign that two actors were more than friends. I watched this scene and I bet it was done just as the script intended. I see nothing that suggests this scene is any more homoerotic than any John Wayne movie where "he is my buddy but maybe my rival for her hand". That would never have been allowed in 1950s Hollywood. Here's the scene from Massacre River, 1949, that someone mentioned, where Rory and Guy were in a tub. How they were not immediately recognized as gay (as they would be today) is beyond me. I guess people then simply said "married, not gay".
and the full movie for those interested:
I agree. When it comes to Hollywood hunk pics, the only thing worse than someone not doing actual comparisons is someone photoshopping them and not labeling them as such. Tab Hunter was gay and wrote a 'tell-all". The "naked" pics of him are photoshopped just like nude pics of Rock Hudson and Sean Connery much to my disappointment. I am pretty sure that Sean relied on his talent for work after years of acting in plays but his role in Disney's 1959 movie "Darby Ogille and the Little People" came with a bit o' they' casting couch action.I don't think those nude pics are really GM. Just like the one posted of Tab Hunter are not him.
story I heard was that Wilson kept Rory's criminal record secret until... A reporter had proof that Rock Hudson was having sex with bears in a San Fransico leather bar. The studio held some influence on the press in those days. While Rock was an important cash cow, Rory was much less so. As a compromise, Wilson gave the reporter Calhoun's prison record to silence the story about America's most handsome and virile "straight" actor. Consider these were the days that allowed Liberace to sue a tabloid for suggesting he was gay and HE WON???Rory Calhoun was ex con trash before Willson got his hands (ahem) on him, but hot looking nonetheless. Boy-oh-boy did he clean up good! Imagine wholesome Guy Madison getting pounded by rough trade Rory!
No kidding... I waited on him once at a 5-star restaurant, my first job ever. He arrived at the velvet-roped door, smiling wide despite his rhinestone hot pants, cape and rhinestoned Phyllis Diller heels. The owner simply surveyed him, said "gentlemen must wear coat and tie" and turned 180 and left. He went outside and arrived back in a blue jacket, black shirt and blue tie, minus the rhinestones. What a total prick he was. Nothing was right. Butter was "soggy" atop a mound of dry crushed ice, and after trying it on a chilled salad plate, it was "soft". Next he ordered the house's most expensive bottle of wine and pronounced it "vinegar" (I sampled it as did the owners, exquisite). He could hardly complain about the Omaha steaks, seafood flown in daily from Alaska and Mazatlan. Clicking his fingers over his head (unnecessary, I was assigned only his table to actually "wait" on his every need) and saying in a loud, nasal tone "exCUSE me..." so many times that the sight of his excrement-smelling expression made me gag, he blessed the staff dedicated to his table with $3 on a $200 bill (in the early 70's). The owner grabbed the cash ran out the door behind him, and said "Sir, sir, SIR... You FORGOT your CHANGE!!" and threw it in his direction, asking him please to never return.story I heard was that Wilson kept Rory's criminal record secret until...
