I was at a college dorm for guys about 3 weeks ago to do a talk on STDs and to talk about PrEP and hiv testing. The RA that I was looking for wasn’t where he said he would be to meet me, so a student let me into the dorm and we walked two halls looking for him. Since it was a night time talk at 8:00, I saw quite a few guys in boxers and boxer briefs. Saw some nice packages and had some nice looking guys in my audience. As part of my routine, we allow students to submit anonymous questions that I then answer unless they are clearly prank questions. There were some good questions and clearly some students lacking some pretty basic info. I enjoy the talks, but I am not crazy about getting home at 10 or 10:30 and having a early morning scheduled.
Sometimes, and this night was no different, there were concerns about size, pleasing partners and of course some insecurities. The oddest thing happened at the last talk I did. There was this guy who was laying on the floor and had a pair of joggers on, but he had his hand down his pants the entire time I talked (about 45 min) and it appeared he was cupping his package. He was lying on the floor about 3 ft away from where I was standing. I found it curious and definitely distracting!

I went to college a few years ago (1998-2002), and went to two different schools. Back home in Puerto Rico, most guys wore briefs or bikini briefs (75%) the rest boxers or boxer-briefs. Tight and short underwear is pretty popular in Latin America. Then, I went to a university in Ontario, Canada, and it was mostly boxers and some boxer-briefs. Just my roommate there, who was Italian American, used to wear Calvin Kleins white briefs. He looked good on them.

There definitely seems to be a cultural difference between Latino and Caucasians regarding underwear preference. I would concur that in college in the late 90s it was almost all boxers on my floor. One black guy who was pretty muscled would wear boxer briefs or spandex type underwear (pre under armour era). But before college in junior high when I had gym with the high school guys, it was more 50/50. Seems like it flipped in the time span from 1992 where bikini briefs were fashionable to 1996 when you wouldn't be caught dead in them. But had two exchange students from South America back in the mid 90s and both wore the skimpiest bikini briefs I had seen. They were very sexy looking.

So true. I catch myself doing it and not realizing it. At a wrestling tournament we seem to default to practice mentality with how much our hands are on our junk.

Hey guys,

Just wondering for those of you living in dorms, do you seen guys walking around in just their briefs much?

I'm just kinda surprised at how many guys in my dorm prefer briefs to boxers or boxer briefs, wondering if it's isolated since i go to school in a city, or if my generation had truly turned back to briefs.

Hung guys wear them around here, not worried at all about their big bulges showing, and not so hung guys wear them too, not caring how they don't fill them out.

Don't get too many idea of tighty whities or anything, although in a dorm with wrestlers I wouldn't rule that totally out of the realm of possibilities.

I was given a jockstrap by my Dad about 6 years before I was old enough to talk about it on here, so you are more likely to see me in something like that than briefs.

My dorm is the athletic dorm. the floor below me is mostly of the football team. My floor (all are oblong square/rectangular) is one hall mostly wrestlers, on down and around are a cluster of soccer team rooms, the other way is xc and track guys. On the opposite back of the building Is a cluster of baseball guys. Most of what I would see is wrestlers with some straggler xc, baseball, soccer guys.

I have seen briefs on soccer guys heading to their bathroom showers, on a track guy or two and on several wrestlers.

Most recently was a tall guy, swimmer build who I am sure swam competitively in high school. He has a cool looking pair of water blue AE briefs I see him in (with no shame on his part) from time to time. A couple of the soccer guys have matching American flag AE briefs I have seen them in on late night bathroom runs, plus the same two guys seem to have several other AE briefs. (trying to find some pics of ones I can remember seeing them in). One of the xc guys who is a blue jeans kind of redneck hunter guy when not running, always in jeans and stuff, camo hat and the like...……...he also has a pair of camo AE briefs he thinks he looks cool in. I actually saw him going from his room to another in nothing but those briefs and his camo hat.

Some guys would go in a t-shirt and shorts, some in just their underwear and some in just a towel. Sort of depended on who you were and what you were up to. In general, though, guys were pretty open about being in their underwear, but not about being naked. Never, ever saw a pair of briefs. Plenty of boxers, plenty of boxer briefs. Never briefs of any type.

I was a part of the no-briefs club at that point. Now I do wear them occasionally. I have a couple of pairs of the American Eagle briefs Wildcat16 posted. They're made of a higher quality material and fairly soft and comfy. I would see guys wearing AE boxers and boxer briefs, but always the longer leg type. Yeah, other than wrestlers searching for something skimpy and stylish to wear during weigh in since jocks and nudity was banned a few years ago, I have only noticed briefs in the general population in the last 2 years, especially the more colorful AE ones.

Wrestling probably retained jockstraps as a normal thing longer than any other sport. However in 2010 someone thought it would be a great idea to change the ruling for weigh in and skin checks that you must wear at least an undergarment that covered both the buttocks and the crotch. a lot of coaches (since in some of the talk specifically mentioned jockstraps were not appropriate for weigh in and skin check), took it as not sure if they were allowed at all and stopped telling kids to wear them or in some cases told them not to wear them. This seemed to mainly be in high school and middle school, but those guys have now made it into the ranks of the colleges.

Thankfully that speculation has subsided IMO, and high school guys are actually seeing jocks as an intriguing and very comfortable option if they give them a try.

The push is to avoid any athlete from getting photographed or videoed naked or in compromising positions, so changing beside the bleachers or in the bleachers or a hall way is kind of frowned on sometimes. It pretty lax in the locker room anyway from what I see. But to keep from showing their ass when they slip off their singlet and put on shorts or sweats, a lot of guys wear compression shorts or other spandex underwear over their jock or in place of their jock for matches.

My brother graduated high school in 08 and never wore more than a jockstrap for anything in or around the locker room or scales till he had to put on his singlet to go onto the mat. he spent the next few years in college wrestling. The no jock no bare but rule took affect while he was in college but it seemed it didn't get enforced a lot except at tournaments and multi team events were maybe real locker rooms weren't the place you held weigh ins.

The rule hit me in my sophomore year of high school, prior to that I always hit the scales in a jock, or less. Coaches seemed confused about what was allowed, even officials didn't know for sure sometimes. I wore various light weight undergarments that technically covered the required areas to weigh in. Most of them were very tight, clingy and ever bit as revealing as nothing at all, lol. I was actually scolded by a ref for changing into a jock after I had been through weigh in and skin checks...……..I showed him the rule and that it said nothing about post weigh in requirements.

Briefs and bikini briefs or very short leg, like 2" or 3" inseam, trunks are pretty common. I rarely see any long leg spandex under a singlet on a serious wrestler, too much binding and restriction. Jocks are a rare one off sighting at this point, although if you take out guys I might have had an influence on, the numbers do seem to be going back up ever so slightly now day.
Plus I have spotted jocks in locker rooms we have been in besides ours. Even some out of the norm brand jocks, that would have had to been ordered individually most likely vs ordered in as a team supply.

2008-2012 I went to college. Stayed in the dorms from 2008-2010, almost all the guys wore boxers, you would occasionally see boxer briefs and I never seen anyone but me and another guy in briefs. At night it would not be uncommon to see guys in boxers walking around going to their friends dorm, etc. American Eagle was by far the most common brand of boxers. Literally everyone wore them. Aeropostale was pretty popular too and you'd see some fruit of the loom or Hanes boxer briefs here and there.

My roommate had a girlfriend and they were always fucking, so I hung out a lot in one of my other friends room. He had a roommate that usually wore boxers but one day he was shirtless and had a pair of shorts on and they were sagging and he had a pair of what I thought were boxer briefs on, they were hanes with the gray "Hanes" waist band and black and my friend was teasing his roommate about sagging and tugged his shorts down and they were not boxers briefs but regular briefs and my friend started laughing and his roommate said "don't laugh at my "blackie wackies."

I never seen him in them again, but one night I fell asleep in their dorm, my friends roommate went home Thursday after his classes and it was Friday night and we had been drinking. I remembered I had to meet some class mates for a project for one of my classes in the library at 10, I woke up at 9:45. I took a shower in their dorm and asked my friend for clothes and he gave me some jeans and a polo shirt said "I'm out of clean boxers, check to see if Taylor has any, I've been wearing his." I said OK and then he said, I need to shower too, I'll check and he opened Taylor's drawer and said "I call dibs on the boxers, you can wear these and threw the black briefs at me." I showered, wore them, went to work on the project, met my parents for lunch and went back to my dorm, and took a long nap hoping my hangover would go away. I slept until night time, I got a phone call from one of my friends inviting me over to watch a ball game at the apartment complex he lives in near campus.

The semester was almost over, it was in May and was already hot. One of my friends said "lets go to the pool and swim, they opened the pool." He gave a few of my friends some swim trunks and gym shorts, but ran out and told us to "swim in your boxers." I had been drinking and completely forgot I had on briefs. 3 or 4 of the 10 or so guys that were there were in boxers, the rest in swim shorts or regular shorts.

So everyone was in except me, they kept urging me to get in and a hot girl I was talking too, we were the only ones not in the pool, so she actually stripped to her bra and thong and said, you come in too and I took my shirt off and unzipped my jeans and realized I was wearing briefs and a lot of the guys were laughing and she looked at me and laughed too, I just shrugged it off, folded my jeans and went I bent over she said "damn, nice ass bro" so I was feeling cocky and confident and jumped in.

Later on, Taylor, my friends roommate, actually showed up to the pool, I didn't see him there and he came up behind me and slapped my ass, laughed and said "hey those are my blackie wackies you are wearing." I said they are mine now.

I spent the night with the hot girl I met there, she lives in the apartment complex. I presume we fucked, b I don't know because we were both drunk. I just remember waking up in her room and we were both butt naked. When she woke up she asked if I wanted to go to get breakfast and I said sure, I couldn't find my clothes. She said "I'll go check the pool, you could have left them there." Sure enough she found them but I said "where is my underwear, I hate going commando" and she said, I think they are wet because we both swam in our underwear and sure enough they were, we actually left both of our underwear on her balcony and it rained so they were wet. She said she would wash them and get em back to me and we laughed, she said "I look like a whore with underwear drying on my balcony."

She never gave those briefs back to me. LOL

When I got my apartment in 2012 with some friends, I noticed that most guys started wearing boxer briefs exclusively. You'd see someone in regular boxers here and there, but then it seems like boxer briefs took over their popularity.

I went back to grad school, though never finished in 2015 and used the gym on campus since it was free (well tuition pays for it) and most of the guys in the locker room were younger than me. But I even heard one guy, tease someone for wearing boxers and the other guy said "Hey, it's laundry day" in defense of himself.

That's from the younger kids, like middle school, high school or college. I'm in my mid-late 20's and sometimes wear briefs in the locker room and nobody makes negative comments. But when I wear briefs, it's not tighty whities, they are usually in different colors. So that may be why.

I would say it's probably just the natural transition most guys go through. When you are a kid you wear tighty whities but in middle school / high school most switch to boxers and then boxer briefs seem like the mature thing to wear and that seems what most guys get when they start buying their own underwear. That is what all my friends wear and I rarely see boxers in the gym locker room. I see a lot of athletic boxer briefs when guys are changing.

I also think a lot of it has to do with women being attracted to guys in boxer briefs and when guys get mature they dress more to impress women.

I know most women do not like regular boxers, one of my female friends, when we were watching a movie, one of the actors had a pair of boxers on and she said "I hate seeing guys with those baggy things on. Such a turn off."
