So...when did wearing speedo type shorts fall out of fashion with everyone except swimmers?

I spend a lot of summer time boating and hanging out at what is called "Party Cove" on a north Texas lake and rarely see anything except what I call "kulats" (boardshorts) on the guys. With the exception of a buddy that hangs out on my boat, I can recall only twice, maybe three times, in the last 7 years seeing anyone in the 200-300 guys hanging out on boats wearing anything midthigh or above. Only once a true speedo on a guy. He had the body for it and was in a boat surrounded by women.

If women (we know the guys do) like seeing a guy's body, why do so many cover it up?? What made them so shy?

I wish I knew. I was so busy spending my entire life in a speedo due to competitive swimming, I never realized other people swam in anything else. Then one day I quit swimming and went to lakes and pools with regular folks. I thought I must have been in another world my whole life!

right there with you man...it wasn't until after i stopped competing that i was even aware that most guys didn't wear speedos...i guess it's too homo-erotic for most guys..what i don't get is why those same guys don't have a problem with competitive swimmers wearing speedos...weird and hypocritical but that's what humans are all about :biggrin1:

i still wear speedys when i'm doing laps ..don't know anything else...i moved to a 'boxcut' for other times

Speedos first appeared in early 50's in Europe so could be considered classic male attire! Amusingly Alton Towers, a large theme park, in England banned the wearing of speedos at its pool this past summer. The management claimed they frightened the children!
Frightening the horses I can understand but kids see more nudity on BBC tv.

if this is a repeat post, please forgive..it must of been another thread.

i swam competitively all thru grade, high school and college.
as i grew, a high school coach suggested to me that i wear a boxer trunk over my speedo...remove it before a heet or take if off while in the pool
to do my morning and afternoon laps.
he did not want me walking around the pool in my speedo. i have a bulge that makes people uncomfortable i guess..what it really did was to cause my teammates to be more curious as to what i was hiding for the first week or so..and in the shower all doubt was removed as to why i was wearing a speedo type boxer over my swim speedo..

a number of my speedo pics in my gallery, all be it they are not from my college days..
