"Brokeback Mountain".
Ya, that would be the one for me. That movie really moved me. It was deja vu of how things progressed with me and my best friend back when I was 25. The 6 years that we were partners were some of the best years of my life. Times change and people change, yet we're still good friends today.

No, seriously. It's not like they could just have an open gay relationship. They would have been targets for hate crimes. As it was, one guy got killed anyway.

Honest, I hadn't seen it.

Now, thanks to your spoiler, I never will

"Brokeback Mountain".

What a great way to male bond like cheating on each other's spouses.

Did they have another option?

Yeah, they had plenty of options...but Hollywood loves a good cheatin' faggot cocksucker movie. (Yeah, I said the C-word...I said "CHEATIN'".) Maybe BASIC INSTINCT was a good movie about female bonding. Maybe BASIC INSTINCT was better than THELMA AND LOUISE whatever and however the fuck it may be in comparison.

Plot-wise Jack Twist should've treated that hot tent fuck with Ennis as casual sex...held out for something better at the gay honky tonk. Allowed Ennis Del Mar his marriage of pretension.

But since a woman (Annie Proulx) fabricated BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN out of the aether, she probably didn't exploit enough of the possibilities with rewriting.
Annie Proulx tells the story behind "Brokeback Mountain" | \ | Advocate.com

"AP: You've said "Brokeback Mountain" began as an examination of homophobia in the land of the pure, noble cowboy.
Proulx: Everything I write has a rural situation, and the Wyoming stories, in the collection Close Range, which includes "Brokeback Mountain," did contain a number of those social-observation stories—what things are like for people there. It's my subject matter, what can I say?
AP: Were you trying to accomplish something specific with this story?
Proulx: No. It was just another story when I started writing it. I had no idea it was going to even end up on the screen. I didn't even think it was going to be published when I was first working on it because the subject matter was not in the usual ruts in the literary road.
AP: You've said this story took twice as long to write as a novel. Why?
Proulx: Because I had to imagine my way into the minds of two uneducated, rough-spoken, uninformed young men, and that takes some doing if you happen to be an elderly female person. I spent a great deal of time thinking about each character and the balance of the story, working it out, trying to do it in a fair kind of way."

But I guess she probably would say male bonding is a bunch of cowboys who have good sex with each other to the demise of their spouses' relationship and their familial units.

I think BBM was more about how powerful love can be between any two people...it's obviously stronger than the desire not to cheat. This is true about human nature all the time. It may not be moral but it seems to be true.
