Hi gents! I’m a complete newb when it comes to anything dealing with the gym. However, I need to get my shit together and make some time for my body. During the height of COVID I got on the spin train and became addicted to Peleton….however have fallen off the train after moving last year. I have so much trepidation about the gym because I legit have zero idea of what to do/use. Any of you have experience with programs that will tell me what to do/use? I have the diet situation pretty under control…just need to handle the exercise part.

For your first session I recommend you to get an introduction by a trainer to know how to use what. Or a friend who is in the gym regularly.
That’s a good idea…don’t have any friends who regularly workout at a gym that isn’t CrossFit or another circuit type situation.

A lot of the gyms will include a session to several sessions with a trainer as a signing up bonus. It gets you coming back because you don't feel lost & the trainer hopes you'll like the personalized attention & sign-on for ongoing sessions.
When shopping gyms, ask about free trainer sessions to start. Good luck!

Ohhhh…that’s a smart choice. I know some people say you can just ask folks…but idk why I feel instantly judged whenever I go into a gym. I know it’s not real life…

Im work in a gym and would say honesty is the best policy! My recommendation would be to find a smaller gym that is maybe slightly higher in price. The bargain gyms are built on numbers, and you really are only paying for access to the equipment. A higher price point gym will largely have a greater investment in their members, and will be able to support you when you join. A set of personal training sessions also to build a program is also a fantastic investment to give you the knowledge to train safely and effectively!

Thanks man for the thoughts and suggestions! There aren’t too many gym options where I live…but there’s a non-chain one close to my house that I may look into. I guess the vulnerability and fear of sounding stupid has me frozen…so I appreciate you saying just to be honest.

I recommend the BodyFit app and choose a beginner lifting program. It will give you specific exercises for 6+ weeks. Lots of programs to choose from.

Hey buddy.... went through this myself when I first joined the gym. I had NO idea what to do in there and yes, feeling vulnerable in that setting is rough. But here's the deal, everyone in the gym is looking at themself...

Best advice is to start with a trainer, so as to avoid injury.
