I have spent my life enjoying my body with self pleasure, and masturbation. I have recently noticed changes in my erections. They are difficult to achieve and when I do, they are wimpy. I still have a steady flow of precum, but that is it. I went to my doctor and told him about it. He wanted to know if I had used anything to help in achieving an erection. I said I used a cock ring. He responded that will not help to achieve an erection. He then wrote me the prescription for Viagra. I could not believe it. 36 years old and I have the prescription for the “blue pill”. I am not involved with anyone recently, but I do enjoy masturbation and the use of toys inside my hole. I hope this can revitalize my sex life so I can find enjoyment in self pleasure. Maybe this will allow me to get into a relationship or at least have some fun along the way.

Remember, if you are having trouble, talk to your doctor. Be sure you have an open dialogue and be honest. Male doctors, especially want to be sure that other men can enjoy sex.

Let us know how it went. I know a lot of people use it recreationally (which I am curious about), but I haven't heard directly from people who had some form of ED.

And kudos as well for going out there. It isn't easy to have difficult conversations like that.

Thanks bud. I am very open with my doctor. Men need to be more upfront and discuss issues pertaining to their overall well-bring.

Men: Doctors will not be shocked or think badly of you if you discuss ED problems. To them, it's just as if you were discussing the problem with your knee. It's only the patient who hesitates or might feel shame or uncertainty. The one thing you want is the very best quality of life for yourself; the doctor wants that for you also. So, just go ahead and do it. It is no slight on your masculinity and you will have no stamp on your forehead to identify you as a pill user. Likewise, the pharmacist is not going to put your pills in a specially marked bag or announce over the PA," Mr. Jones, you viagra order is ready. Hopefully it will help you get hard." I didn't have full blown ED, but had a little difficulty maintaining for a period of time. During a physical, my doctor asked," And how are things going down there?" I just said," It could stay harder longer." He wrote a prescription and that was it. If anyone has a problem, just talk to the doctor - you'll be thankful, as will your partner.

I have a connective tissue disorder that involves my nerves and that could have something to do with the ED. I was surprised how easily he wrote the scrpit for Viagra. Maybe that's because he is in his 30's as well and wants me to have a healthy sex life even if it is just manual masturbation, self pleasure and the use of anal toys.

I would not read too much into the whys of his writing the prescription. A prudent doctor of any age (or sex) would surely do the same based on YOUR situation. He did explain the contradictions and side effects of using it as well right? Very important as many just go with it without asking. For most, it seems it's a positive experience but I've read anecdotal evidence of those using "poppers" it is NOT recommended. Also those with heart/cardio issues. Glad you asked you doctor first.

I have a female doctor. Have had her for the past ten years. Over the years i have developed a trust with her. When i discus things with her it isn't a big deal. If they are a good doctor they will listen, not judge and find a solution . Nothing to be shy or embarased about.

The doctor did tell me about the side effects of a possible headache and hot to use with nitroglycerin based products. He even printed a coupon at the office so it did not cost me an arm and a leg. Total cost for 30 pills was around $16.00. What a deal! Check out GoodRx.com to see if you have any medications that have a coupon.

I would recommend a continued conservation on what might be the underlying cause. Over the last two years I also began to experience some difficulties achieving erections. I attributed it to stress. Recently I was diagnosed with diabetes, and have altered my diet and exercise routine to help control my blood sugar along with medication. (Don't want to lose my eyesight or toes) Since starting, I've noticed firmer and more frequent elections. Open communication with your medical provider is never a bad thing. And I'm not that much older than yourself.

I have the same issue when I'm rubbing one out. It takes forever to get hard, and if I don't get it done fast enough, I start to go soft, and I'm younger than the OP. When I'm with someone, it's not a problem at all. I'm been extremely stressed lately, money issues etc. So I imagine the stress has something to do with it. Fortunately I'm starting a new job next week and money won't be a problem anymore. Hoping I'm just having this problem because of the stress and once I'm in a better place in the next month of so everything will go back to normal.

Viagra can become very dependent in your system- and it seems to get less effective over time, right? Unless you have a MAJOR physical reason I’d say go easy on the blue pills...
I have filled the script and not taken a pill yet. I am waiting for the right time.
