Thanks!!! I make at least one every year...I've posted pics of the ones I've made in my profile pics....My Gladiator has been my favorite so far...then the Dangle outfit. The Gladiator took me a LONG time to make. I've hand sewn everything so far... but getting a sewing machine today to work on the new stuff. :)

i've made tons of costumes. The cape shouldn't be too hard. You'll need a fabric with a little rayon in it preferably to give it that super hero look. The ladies at any fabric store can point out some good cheap choices if you ask. Also get some stich witchery. It irons in and easy to use. Get a meduim weight cardboard and cut it in a slight curve to the shape you need for the collar of the cape. Over estimate the size because you can always trim it. Drape the fabric over the collar peice and have strips of stich witchery first on the front to ancor then the back. Fold the excess collar fabric inward and the seems will be hidden. You'll need your clothes iron with steam. Use it dry at first for the sw to stay put. On the back collar, gather the fabric so it puckers as you go. When done add a little mist of steam and bend the collar into the shape you need. Leave it to dry over a curved surface like a rolled arm chair.

Voila! You've got a perfect cape the easy way. Hope that helped a little.

OK...due to drama with the boots....I have switched up my costume. *also I dont want to shave...beard is looking too good at the moment. lol :)* For the first party I'm attending... I'm going as Thor. *going blond with the beard to match wig* The second event I'm doing Batman Beyond, in place of Martain Manhunter. I still have the Manhunter stuff and may, if I have another event...do him...but wear a morphsuit and put red eyes on it. *you can see thru those and will keep me from having to shave* :) Purchasing a sewing machine today...so I have till the 29th to learn to use it and get everything finished. *Loving the look of my Batman costume so far* Gonna be GOOOOD! :)

Last I heard Singer was THE machine to get. I don't know about today's machines...but I know Singer of Old were built like TANKS. Kind of like Kitchen Aid of the 70s and early 80s. KA today is crap.

Lots of photos of the construction...would be cool to see how it goes together for you.

Go out wearing just a hospital gown with nothing on underneath it. Your partner can go as a surgeon (scrubs and a stethiscope) and you can be his patient. If you and your partner decide to get it on wherever you go, it's easy access if you're naked underneath the gown. A pic reference...

For one of my costumes this year, I purchased a caveman costume (long leapord print shirt with an uneven hem) that is pretty sheer and flimsy... so I went and purchased 1 yard of an awesome fake fur from the fabric store- and created a custom fur overcoat, and then I used remnants to make shin wraps for my shin/ankles, which will just be tied on with leather string from the craft store.

For the pattern I just grabbed a vest from my closet and traced the 3 pieces, let it run long on the bottom- then i took a scissors and cut out the neckline and shoulders to make it a bit irregular. I hand-stitched the seams, then took it to work and had my assistant run it thru her sewing machine. Using scrap pieces I even sewed in some small inside pockets (like a suit coat) for my cell phone, cash and maybe some condoms lol, along with a larger cone-shaped pouch (like a kilt sporran almost) that I can wear on my hip if I ditch the fur coat at a party. With careful planning, I used exactly 1 yard of fur- and total wasted scraps were about the size of a 3x5 card.

To complete the look, I ordered a couple accessories online- a crazy caveman brown wig/beard, and a necklace with fake dino teeth. Purchased a plastic club with the tunic at the store- it squeaks when you hit something! Should look pretty awesome!

My costume is a bit more "barney rubble" and not quite as "sexy" as this dude- but it's where I got the inspiration to do an overcoat/ankle wraps:

Love it! :) I'm still sewing on my batman beyond...taking pics as I go. *will post all at the end as requested* :) I have a Thor costume for a different party I haven't even started altering. Buying something at a costume shop SUCKS...but I didnt have time to work out two full costumes this year. I had to get an XXL to fit thru the chest and shoulders.(I wear a 50R AC...SO the bottom part is XXL too...*I only wear a 32 waist.* LOL The pants SWALLOW me. Dunno If I'm just gonna remove them and wear tights and a speedo for the bottom part *like the Comic* or TRY to alter the costume legs to fit.

HAHAHA I would too...BUT not that kind of party. :) *even my Gladiator costume from a couple yrs ago (in photo gallery) made a few people "uncomfortable". Since I wore a jockstrap with the strappy kilt, and when I turned/moved...i exposed ass and bulge. LOL *as designed!* Damn Puritans! :)

If you haven't bought them already, get bigger needles. It's best to have a whole range so you can use whichever is most appropriate, and thick fabric = big needles.

I did go buy some :) I was using the ones that came with the costco pack first :) I got all different thicknesses. It's good to have a thick one every now and then for certain jobs. ;)

I'm an experienced sewer and broken needles are common

ways to void them:
DON'T pull the fabric through the sewing machine. Let the feed dogs pull the fbric along. Only use your hands to guide it
NEVERNEVER sew over a pin. Instant broken needle or a needle with a dull point that will tear rather than pierce your fabric.

Unless you're sewing something heavy like denim, a regular medium weight, sharp point needle will do the trick.
FWIW, broken needles are normal part of sewing.

thanks...yah I was sewing Vinyl :) and sometimes two pieces of it together. The machine came with 3 needles...all thin. So I used what I had till I had to go get more. :) Looks good tho!
