I will be limited for about a month with one hand. What workouts will keep arms, chest, and shoulders in shape when I can't stress hand or fingers. Hand will be in cast from wrist to fingers.
Absolutely make your PT get you this information.

Correct but you want to keep your hand function at prior ability while recovering too.
I worked in a hand surgery clinic for a few months. In lieu of an OT.

I’m a restorative/medical massage therapist. Or, “the less expensive option when insurance runs out but not everything was okay.”

PT often starts in hospital, a few at home visits for ADL/scoping out potential problems, then to a clinic.

I've had surgery at my wrist a couple of years ago. Dr. advised me to stay out of the gym for two to four wks. To keep from doing any damage to the area. Cardio was fine but nothing as far as weight lifting. Good luck and a speedy recovery.

Thanks, I think that is my path also. May do lower body workouts and some body weight core work, but hands are offimits.

Was it the grip or weight bearing that concerned the doc more? It depended on the surgeon in the clinic. One was far more conservative with activity, leading to a “sit, sit sit...now work” mentality.

With my Love’s two surgeries, hernia and repairing a broken leg the next day, keeping them somewhat protected from sudden movement was the first concern, then slowly getting back to normal.

I think with bone issues they try to get you up and moving the first 24 hours. Reduces chance for blood clots. This was how they treated my knee and shoulder repair. The hand seems to be different. It more nerve, tendon, and ligament issues. I have read they want two weeks before stitches are removed, and one to two months of reduced use. Not easy for a hyper person on their dominant hand.

Good luck with your recovery. I need to have my right thumb joint(Carpometacarpal (CMC) ) replaced d/t severe arthritis. I was putting it off because of COVID. But now I'm vaccinated and still don't want to go through the surgery........stompsfeet.
