There was no day on school where we were addressed just because we were straight or gay, I've never even heard of this unless it's a new thing. We were addressed as males and females and when it came to sex education we were addressed together mixed anyway, no nothing was ever mentioned about playing with yourself either.
The only time I'd put my hands down my pants into public is if my junk has gotten extremely uncomfortable, I mean in a position where I couldn't wait to do it discreetly like of one my balls were getting pinched. I would also do the same if my penis had escaped my underwear and was either uncomfortable, apart from that's I wouldn't deliberately play with myself that's just weird, I don't recall ever seeing anyone do it either!
