I am proud to be an American and don't give a fuck what people say about that. Every country in the history of the world has practiced imperialism and I am not ashamed of my country and will wave my flag proudly. A group of men had an idea and they made it to come to life even if it meant dying for it.

We are the one country that no matter how 'bad' they say we are or how much they trash us, "they" (most people) still want to come here and take advantage of our system to achieve success. Individualism and personal freedom are the foundations of our country and regardless of what any nitwit says, the world is a better place from what has been provided by American innovation. Capitalism and democracy have pushed the world forward and nobody can take that away from us no matter how much they desperately want to change history. Fuck 'em. Some men had an idea a

Both sides of the political aisle are needed and it's a shame that both parties have been hijacked by sick people. I don't know the solution except for us to keep moving forward and try to love our neighbors.

'Merica. Happy 4th of July.

I'm happy to celebrate the best of what the United States has stood for, while acknowledging the serious failings that have plagued this country from its beginnings (and before). Let's do what we can to keep some kind of hope alive, at a time when even our basic notions of democracy are under threat.

Exactly, Klingsor. And unfortunately there are people out there who are working even now to undo and undermine democracy itself.

People who have desecrated the flag via vulgar alterations of its countenance and who have co-opted it for purposes both nefarious and profane.

And frankly I can't see how anyone who claims to love America can sit back and abide by what they have done and are trying to do.

That's fine if you "don't give a fuck what people say about that" but it's not really a way to grow and improve.

If a doctor says you are sick, you need to listen to his/her complaints and even seek out treatment not just get angry that she/he's criticizing you. I celebrated America's birthday and the continuing fight for freedom and equality. It's not over, it wasn't over in 1776.

Happy Independence Day and remember commerce has always existed but not all commerce is Capitalism.
(Why) Americans Don’t Understand What Capitalism Really Is | by umair haque | Eudaimonia and Co (eand.co)

Capitalism is a very specific thing. It has a few critical elements. Maximizing profits — a legal obligation to. Returning those profits to shareholders, people who “own” a legally contracted “share” of them — which they can “trade.” Those “shareholders” are the ones who decide how to govern the organization, and sit on its board. Those are the basic ingredients of capitalism.

Now. Think back two thousand years. There were plenty of entrepreneurs and businesses. Wine merchants and carpenters and olive farmers. But none of these were “capitalists.” They had no legal obligation to maximize profits.

I don't think I ever said America was without its problems or wasn't above criticism but thats a poorly written article :joy: Guy comes off like a jealous...pseudo intellectual midget that believes capitalism can be boiled down to 'maximizing profits'. That excerpt? He's confusing capitalism with corporatism. The fact that he can't get that correct immediately renders his opinion moot..it's sad considering some of the incredible institutions he's been a student at.

Since you opened the door, capitalism is concerned with private property and ownership, rather than state-run. The government is my servant, not my master. Capitalism has been shown time and time again to be the best allocation of resources when someone has their own skin in the game. That carpenter or that olive farmer or that wine merchant? They sell their product at a market, they are engaging in capitalism. Capitalism has raised the standard of living, it promotes choice, and it promotes innovation. I'll finish by saying that capitalism does have its faults, but I'll take it over the alternative :)

Considering the hostility of this forum, I won't be replying further. I regret even replying to this post. Just too much hatred for people who disagree and attempts to ban/stamp out views that don't march lock step with your chosen ideology religion thingy you've got going on. It's unbecoming.

So many people here seem to hate this country. It's weird.

Bye.

Can you find a single instance of hostility or hatred in this thread, other than in your own posts?
I challenge you.

Yeah nah. Reading the responses to the original post here, I’m thinking exactly the same, do you guys hate your own country???

I see scores of ‘refugees’ trying to enter your country, they believe it’s a better place than the ‘shithole’ they’re trying to leave. I don’t see similar scores leaving America.

Before lots of people were whining about Trump wrecking America, now Biden’s President (well, in name at least) and you’re still doomsaying about it. Would you be happier in China, or Russia, or some middle eastern caliphate or 3rd world African or South America nation? How’s Venezuala going?

I hope your country stays good. Every place has its own problems but America has been the true super power and relatively benevolent taking into account powerful nations over the course of history. I greatly appreciate the USA being the superpower rather than some Communistic or Dictatorship run county.

I support America, warts and all!!! Your generosity is exceeding.

President Biden was elected on 11/3/20 and inaugurated on 1/20/21. He has been doing a great job.

Further, the original post was one of acknowledging that not everything was perfect but many good things have come from America and the preservation of freedoms and other concepts.

Almost all of the replying post have raised negativity and ignored all the positives raised - are you all that anti America, anti-freedom and anti-capitalist?

Klingsor & Barber dude, you have completely ignored the bulk of the post - you have strained out the gnat but allowed the camel through - would that be because you can’t actually rebut the points raised?

That’s a good joke!
Someone else posted one, ‘What’s the best thing about being Joe Biden?
Waking up every day and finding out you’re the President.

But anyway, this post isn’t about Joe Biden. America is bigger than just the current President (whoever that is at the time).

Here's an interesting summation of how people of a number of nations view the United States before and after the inauguration of Joe Biden.

No real surprise.

PG_2021.06.10_us-image_00-03.png

Obviously, people of most nations infinitely prefer Biden to Trump.

The western European nations are FAR more impressed with Biden than Trump:

Biden gets FAR higher marks than Trump on personal qualities, quite apart from whatever he brings specifically to the task of leadership.

This enhancement of American prestige demonstrates the capacity of the United States for national self-renewal — something I think we can very well celebrate in the shadow of the 4th of July celebrations.

:joy: Really puzzled by this thread. So speaking on what can improve in the US means you hate you’re own country, Interesting. I’m puzzled about what needed rebuttal here. The op just spouted off a bunch of these that were his opinion.

That's right. And he got the same back. And everything was offered with a sense of measure — on all sides, I'd say, except his.

You guys are a punish. When it’s someone’s birthday and everyone’s giving compliments and well wishes do you write in their card a list of faults and remind them of the personal issues they have? Or do you not get invited to birthdays?

On your wedding anniversary (or you & your partners) do you give them a list of issues for them to fix, and any difficulties you’re having or do you celebrate together?

If you’re so keen on balance, where’s the list of Joe Biden issues and faults?

But seriously, how pathetic, a survey of what Europeans think of your President in order for you to feel good about him. Maybe you are quite fragile about him. He can barely string a sentence together.

And seeing as you want to compare him toTrump, Trump had four countries sign peace treaties with Israel - that’s unheard of. Instead of worrying about what he looked like in some far left survey by people who’s opinions matter nought, he actually went out and achieved.

Anyway, I await a list of Joe Biden’s faults from you to show your ‘balance’ and ‘measure’.

I'm proud to be an American. With all her faults, history, good and bad, she's still the greatest country in the world. Our forefathers were willing to commit treason for this country to become a nation.

Presidents come and go, but as was pointed out earlier there's not a mass exodus from this country of its native born. There is a mass increase in people from other countries wanting to get in. Why? Because it's the greatest free country in the world. These people aren't trying to flee to China or Russia why?

You have the freedom to criticize her for all her short comings, because many men and women died and served this country so you can have that freedom. That wouldn't be allowed in China or Russia.

America I hope will always be a free nation.
