Have stuck a big sprig of wattle in my cap just out of respect. Not an Australian but seems like you are the only genuine reliable people we can count on these days. Hip! Hip!

    How to advance Australia unfair
    NICK O'MALLEY AND LEESHA MCKENNY
    January 28, 2010
Ian Kiernan AO, the founder of Clean Up Australia Day, couldn't have put it better. ''It's not very Australian to steal a bloke's ute on Australia Day, is it?'' He's right, it isn't. But as Kiernan and his family were enjoying the celebration at their Kirribilli home on Tuesday someone sneaked into the house, pinched his keys and his wife's wallet and made off in Kiernan's lime-green five-year-old Ford Falcon. The first Kiernan heard about it was when police called yesterday morning to tell him the vehicle, provided to Kiernan by Clean Up Australia Day, had been found burnt out in Hornsby. ''That car was my office,'' said an outraged Kiernan yesterday. ''I had it all set up. It had leather seats, mag wheels, CB radio, it had a good roll bar and it was gas powered so it was very environmental.'' Worse, not only did Kiernan lose material crucial to the coming Clean Up event, but his Akubra. ''It's very bloody un-Australian,'' Kiernan said. Perhaps he should have thought of that before he bought a Ford.

    PACKERING A PUNCH

And it wasn't just on the foreshore that un-Australian activities were afoot. A reader, Chris Webb, was enjoying Australia Day from the cockpit of his friend's six-metre yacht as they took part in the Kirribilli squadron's regatta. They had just rounded the point and were heading into Rose Bay when the skipper navigated past the vast hull of Jamie Packer's 24-metre, $30-million plaything, the Z Sydney. An angry uniformed crew member scuttled to the side to bellow abuse to the yacht's skipper, Webb says. ''I couldn't really hear what he said. All I could make out was ''silly old bastard''. Packer, who was on deck enjoying a cigarette and the company of his guests appeared not to hear. ''It's little incidents like this that leave a bad taste in your mouth,'' Webb says. ''It's pretty f---ing un-Australian.''
