“Whites, it must frankly be said, are not putting in a similar mass effort to reeducate themselves out of their racial ignorance. It is an aspect of their sense of superiority that the white people of America believe they have so little to learn.”

Isn't this the part where you call him a hateful liberal?

Let's give Fred the benefit of the doubt. I'm sure he's sincere in his support of Dr. King, just as he is with his favorite current black civil rights leaders.

We need leaders not in love with money but in love with justice. Not in love with publicity but in love with humanity. Leaders who can subject their particular egos to the pressing urgencies of the great cause of freedom-a time like this demands great leaders. ~Martin Luther King

People don't give him enough credit for the fact that he didn't just stand up for racial equality. He stood for economic equality as well.

Then that fucking Dodge commercial tried to use one of his (incomplete) speeches to sell trucks. The level of ignorance those advertisers were at is astonishing.

He was a pain in the ass (in the best sense). I'm not sure why so many conservatives think they would like him any better now.

Exactly. Some of the same types who call US, haters, socialists, and social justice warriors called HIM at least TWO of those three, and much WORSE.

We had a certain "not a bigot" in this forum who referred to him as a "drama queen" (said instead of trying to instigate change he should have kept quiet and let things happen)

lol... you'll see him in heaven if you make the list, Fred ;)

It's no surprise that MLK had to abandon the violence of Judeo-Christian theology in Exodus in his doctoral thesis and borrow from Hindu theology the principles of non-violence (ahimsa) and truth force (satyagraha) which Gandhi used to free India from repressive British colonial rule. Remember that Yahweh's mandate for slavery is on the same page as the ten commandments (Exodus chapters 20 and 21).

Remember too, Fred, that your beloved catholic church didn't fully reject slavery until Vatican II in 1965 in direct conflict with scripture they consider the word of god.

As always Noam Chomsky brings us back to the reality that the work is not done:
