To all my fellow Canadians, whether you're going to celebrate today or tomorrow, I'm wishing you the best Thanksgiving!

I'm grateful for all the wonderful friends I've made here at LPSG over the past couple of years.

And I'm grateful that I have family & friends at home for whom I am going to be cooking for ALL day!

I'm grateful that I that I have a home and the ability to help others and that even when things are tough, it's all about perspective.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to all Canadians everywhere.
The meal I was supposed to attend fell through ... the hosts had to leave town.
But I had a very nice bottle of Inniskillin Merlot-Cabernet in store for that meal, and it is consoling me very nicely right now.
A very Happy, HAPPY Thanksgiving to everyone.

Canadian top secret. But if a Canadian asks an American over for dinner - DON'T GO!!!

Just kidding, pretty much exactly the way Americans do - eat waaaay too much and then pass out on the couch. Might be some family fights, reunions, watching sports or a good old fashioned Canadian orgy. One never knows.

I've heard of Canadian Thanksgiving from Jennuine before she left; any similarities to American? Are you hoping for a lot of "stuffing"?:naughty:

I'm not Canadian but my family has a summer place in Canada and it is interesting that many Canadian cottage owners, at least where our place is, have a tradition that they celebrate Thanksgiving at the cottage in a last gasp of the season and close up their cabins for the winter afterward. A coworker also has a summer place in Canada and she and her family "double-dip" on Thanksgiving, celebrating Canadian Thanksgiving at their cottage with their Canadian cottage neighbours and then celebrating American Thanksgiving back at home in November.

The food is much the same -- turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie ... a big meal with many people around the table.
Our celebration isn't as big as the American one. Your Thanksgiving is the biggest celebration of the year. Ours is smaller.
The date has changed many times. It used to be in November, as yours is ... but the date was legally set to the second Monday of October back in the 1950s.
When I was in school, we used to hear about the celebration of the Pilgrims in 1621 at Plymouth in Massachusetts in gratitude for a good harvest. I grew up thinking that was the origin of Thanksgiving on both sides of the border.
However, there is another account of the origin of Canadian Thanksgiving which I hear about now that I am in adulthood. In 1578, the explorer Martin Frobisher, looking for a northern passage to the Pacific Ocean, held a thanksgiving celebration for his crew's surviving the long journey across the Atlantic. This was in a bay on Baffin Island, now part of Nunavut.
Perhaps this account was always the official one. As I say, I only first heard it in adulthood.

Hope that suffices, FSUnole.

So that's what a Canadian orgy is like. Wow I had no idea there was so much food involved..
