HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
I thought LPSG would be quiet tonight, given that it's New Year's Eve, but there seems to be a lot of posting going on.
New Year's is a strange holiday. It's one of the few holidays where one is not obligated to spend time with family--time with friends and acquaintances is emphasized instead. In fact, it's somewhat unusual to spend time with family--parents often ditch their kids for the evening, since it's also one of the few holidays that isn't particularly inclusive of kids.
Alas, those who don't have particularly active social lives are often left out in the cold, sometimes quite literally. I used to go to First Night celebrations, but I swear to God New Year's Eve is almost always one of the coldest nights of the year, at least in New England, and I got sick of freezing my ass off. (Actually, just to contradict me, it's not too bad here tonight--right now about 27 degrees.)
Ah, but I don't care. After Thankgiving and Christmas, I really don't want to be obligated to participate in another holiday. I'm perfectly content to stay at home and relax, drink some wine, surf for some porn, and maybe watch a part of the annual Twilight Zone marathon on the SciFi channel (or, as it is now called, the "Syfy" channel. Whose dumb idead was that? It looks like it should be pronounced "siffy.")
Since I'm half Swedish, here's a traditional Swedish New Year's song:
(Actually, I never really liked this song much, but I was thinking about it earlier today, then coincidentally stumbled across it on youtube, so here it is.)
Totally off-topic of the holiday, but speaking of ABBA, does anyone else think that Agnetha Faltskog is starting to look like the late Audra Lindley?
