Hello there i am finding it hard to get an erection and also maintain that erection during sexual intercourse, I am 23 years of age and smoke about 10 fags a day which i think is the problem.

I dont drink or do drugs or anything else just smoke. Can anyone out there give me some advice on how i can maintain an erection besides getting viagra?

Thanks in advanced for any replys.

Have your testosterone level checked at a urologist that specializes in male hormone replacement.

At least its a start. I had the same problem and found out my testosterone was way low. I started replacement therapy and now can hang a towel on my erection like I was 16 again.

Seriously, it can be a catch 22 situation, once it happens a couple of times, anxiety and worry kick in, nreves get the best of you. Try not to engage in sex for a while, get some early nights, understand yourself and try not to have it as a main concern, i know it is, it will sort itself, but the worry about not getting am erection makes it more likely to happen.

You can either have shots once every two weeks or do the Androgel which you rub on your stomach every morning. I have done both and the androgel is easier and keeps your levels more consistent. Sometimes one works better than the other for some people. I am now getting an implant called testopel once every 4-6 months. Insurance covers it here in the US, but I'm not sure about the UK. If they find that it is low have them give you a shot right then. You will feel like a new man by the time you get home. More energy, libido, hard on, etc. I remember the first shot I got I came home and fucked my wife all night with a raging hard on, it was amazing the difference it made immediately.

before trying hormone therapy you should really try to quit or nearly quit smoking first.

Half of American who have ever smoked have quit. Usually people don't succeed in quitting on the first attempt; usually it takes several tries and those who don't keep trying don't succeed.

I've never had the problem. In the late 1950s and early 1960s, smoking hit it's peak and 75% of American men smoked. In fact, it was, in many circles, considered normal for a man to smoke and abnormal not to smoke. Second-had smoke always bothered me and made it impossible to go to many restaurants and other places. People kept telling me that I should smoke so that it wouldn't bother me; that just made me VERY angry. It was also considered rude to ask people not to smoke in one's home or one's car, but I figured that I had a right to breathe clean air. So, I just let people think that I was rude and stubborn. Eventually, we won that battle.

From what I've seen and read, I suspect that it's harder for some people to quit than it is for others. I also suspect that some people don't try very hard.

Frankly I never understood why people start in the first place. It's not like the dangers aren't widely known to everybody. And if you allow a "friend" to persuade you to do something you know is not good for you, well then... you deserve what you get.

Problems getting and maintaining an erection can be an indication of bigger circulatory problems (in older men, that may mean heart disease). Your smoking could definitely be contributing to the problem. See your doctor for a complete exam and make sure you mention your erection problems since it may be a symptom of something else happening with your body.

Probably most people now days start before they have reached the age of reason. From what I've read, it is very unusual for anyone to start past the age of 18.

It's unfortunate that young people sometimes make bad decisions which create long-term problems for themselves (and others).
