ok everyone...

do you believ in hauntings? Ghosts? Spirits/ Demonic possession and the "supernatural" or "paranormal"?

have you ever experienced anything of that nature? Like something in your house you just could not explain, something truly frightening, that no matter how you studied it, and tried to reason it, defied logic, and crossed in your mind that threshold where it was genuinely an "otherworldly" experience?

While i have never had anything of that sort (hauntings and ghosts etc) happen to me, i did have a rather strange mental connection with my late grandmother...she always knew when i was sick, because she would literally *feel* it and it was weird...one night i was away at school, and i was getting sharp pains in my abdomen, i was doubled over in pain for hours...my grandmother, literally called my parents at their home and said she had "stabbing" pains in her stomach, and she was very worried about me, and had they heard anyting...when i was at the school infirmary, i called my parents to say i was going to the hospital...needless to say it was very strange...

later, she was diagnosed with lung cancer, on the day she was diagnosed, i quit smoking cold turkey...she died a little over a year later, after chemo and radiation...then, one year after *TO THE DAY* of her death, i woke up with stabbing pains in my left lung and difficulty breathing...i went to see the doctor who had been her specialist who was the best lung guy in NYC, they took xrays of my lungs...and when he got them back, i saw the look on his face...he said "I don't believe it"....i said "what"...he went to the records area of his office, pulled my grandmothers xrays from the day hers was discovered...he put both xrays up on the light-board...the dark shadow from her tumor (and what turned out to be an infarction/rounded pneumonia for me, thankfully) and the dark shadow of my infarction, were in the *EXACT* same spot in the lung, the *EXACT* same size...and the *EXACT* same shape, which was almost like an isosceles triangle...*EXACT*.

oh yea...and the time of each X-Ray taken? 11:37 A.M.

same time!

How is that for weird? One year exactly to the date after her death.

anyone have any similarly weird or scary stuff?

I believe in the supernatural and UFOs. I've never seen a ghost or an unidentified flying object but have had da ju vu experiences.

When one of my grandmothers passed away (I was 14) they brought the casket to her home until the funeral. (Now the body usually will lie in state at the funeral home with visitation usually the night before.)

Anyway, a florist brought an orchid to pin on her lapel. I did the honors and I swear, one of the petals touched her chin and the expression on her face changed. Still gives me cold chills.

I definitely do believe in the supernatural. I have not really had any solid experiences, but that doesn't stop me from believing in it. When I was a teenager, I'd often get the feeling that someone was watching me even though there was no one else in the room. That freaked me out. That's about it, though. Never seen a ghost or had unexplained electronic difficulties or anything. I know a lot of people that claim they've had those experiences, though, and I don't discount them one bit.

I am very sceptical about paranormal stuff but there are things that have happened over the last several years since moving into my flat that have weirded me out or scared the living daylights out of me, some of them very recently.

1. I saw a man walking across the living room in the reflection of the window which sent chills down my spine and hairs stood up on my arms very noticeably, my (then) flatmate said as i sat speechless 'you've just seen a ghost have'nt you'.

2. I have five times been held down in my sleep and have felt paralysed by this only able to shout and curse at whatever it was to burn in hell etc etc. On one occasion i siad 'get the f*** off me' and with that there was a thump against the wall and it was over.

3. One occasion i was in bed with the lights off and my eyes shut when it went dark, ironic but that is how it felt, this was followed by a feeling of not being in the room alone which then led to a feeling that whatever was in the room with me was evil and was within inches of my face. I kept my eyes shut and waited for a few minutes until the room seemed to lighten up again.

4. On three different occasions whilst taking a bath unexplained things happened (these are all the most recent activity) A) I was lying down in the tub when i heard dripping from a tap at a drop every couple of seconds, at first i ignored it but it got annoying so i looked to see that there was no dripping into the water, nothing coming out the taps, weird it then stopped. B) I was sat up lathering a flannel when there was a splash in the water behind me, i turned around expecting my shower gel to have fallen in as i just used it but it was still in place and nothing was in the bath. and C) Just a few days ago i was again soaking in the tub when i saw a small clump of long dark hair in the tub, it was not mine, i shaved my head earlier that day and in any case even before cut my hair was'nt that long, i touched it and the movement of the water took it underneath my leg where it vanished.

This is all pretty freaky to me but i just don't want to believe it is anything supernatural, it's too scary living on my own.

The supernatural is the very last explanation I ever would consider for the few strange things that have happened in my life or for any coincidences I have noted.

The only thing I do know is that anything that man thinks he knows, he doesn't know. Just as the world was once thought of as flat, and just as people think we are alone in the universe, there will be discoveries and developments for hundreds of years that will render essentially everything we [think we] know today obsolete. Many, if not all, things are possible.

I grew up in a religious household. Dad was a minister. Over the years I saw many unexplainable things.

My dad performed exorcisms, one in particular at our home that had to be stopped because the spirit that was possessing the woman who came to see my dad threatened to kill her rather than leave her body. (Yes, it spoke through her and made your skin crawl.)

As a child I had dreams of things I could not explain, so I drew them on pieces of paper and gave them my own names. One day I drew out one of the symbols I saw in a waking vision/dream of sorts. The symbols were on the arms of the jackets of these men I saw marching rather unusually (Goose stepping) in formation.

My mother saw the symbol and asked where I saw it. I explained it to her and my mother kind of looked at me in shock. It was a Swastika and I was 4 years old.

There too many stories to write out here. I still have dreams and pick up on things about people, feelings mostly.

I have seen ghosts, felt oppressive spirits, good spirits and felt impressions of things I had no prior knowledge of. I sometimes pick up on secrets my friends are keeping from me as well.

I fully believe in all things paranormal and have had a couple of great EVP experiences while ghost hunting.

My most memorible (sp?) and recent is I was pulling weeds from my flower bed that is up along the house and I heard a voice say my name and when I turned around there was a pit bull running tords me, I got into the back yard that is fenced and inside just as the dog cleared the fence.
Only other thing that has really happend is I hear my name alot and it always sounds like a woman saying my name. And I once woke up to what felt like someone sitting at the foot of my bed and I felt my bed jar like someone had stood up. But thats all so far.

Knew this guy in high school, him and his brother swore up and down their house was haunted. The house was built on an old graveyard. The builder of the house was building it as his dream home, but moved out before it was finished due to unknown reasons (this is a really nice house we're talking about here). My friends have all said they've seen a ghost there, many times, including some pretty freaky stories.

So one day a friend and I were rollin up to this guy's house to drop something off. We sat in the driveway, the guy came out, went back in, and we were getting ready to drive off when all of a sudden the side mirrors on his Cadillac started moving all over the place. Knowing the stories and reputation of this house, I immediately started thinking "holy shit, it's the ghost!" My hair stood up on end, I got the chills, started sweating a little, and my heart rate shot up. Then I realized that's what Cadillac side-view mirrors do when you're in reverse...move on their own

...true story too ;)

The paranormal and visions of all kinds are simply imaginings of the mind. Which is powerful but it is not entirely supernatural. Its within the natural capacity of the brain.

Did Native Americans really see spirit guides? Does anyone really see God or do they just imagine it?

Do relatives come back from the dead? No.

But if someone wants to badly enough and in the case of Native Americans, if they are intoxicated, they will see spirit guides. If someone wants to see God then the mind can create that for them.

If someone is in a weak emotional state then the mind can make lost relatives appear before them. Maybe as a coping mechanism, I don't know.

Something along those lines happened to me once but it was only once and I was drunk and it was late at night. The explanation that it was a manifestation of my own feelings of guilt and sadness is perfectly reasonable.

There's no reason to dress it up as anything supernatural or otherworldly. Its just imagination.

Psychics and seers have been proven to be charlatans. Houdini named and shamed a few.

As for supposed exorcisms, the words "indoctrination" and "personality disorder" spring to mind.

I've seen peeps who were demon possessed. They later told me they had gone to a satanist ceremony and invited him inside. You could see the change in their eyes. They went from kind to pure evil in them. I've felt strange presences too.
If you are into hanuted houses, go to The Myrtles in Louisiana. It's supposed to be one of the most haunted places in the USA.

Let me get this straight, hootie...

You know "kind" people who went to a satanist ceremony in order to be possessed, and then afterward they were "pure evil?"

  1. Easy to fake possession.
  2. Easy to mistake quite a few different mental disorders for possession by those who are religious.
  3. Kind people do not typically attend satanist ceremonies.
  4. Kind people certainly do not ask to be possessed by evil/demonic entities.
  5. Most of the time, people see whatever they want to "see" in a person's eyes.
I'm gonna say that even with the other stuff people are posting in this thread, that's the most bizarre.

To answer the OP: No, I don't even remotely believe in anything supernatural. The world is a strange place, filled with strange things, but ghosts? Seriously?

Of all the "creepy" places I've ever been, I've never seen or heard anything I couldn't explain - and frequently prove - logically... except for Baptists.

I can't explain all of your events, but there is one I can. Are you familiar with the term, "succubus?" Succubi and their male counterparts, incubi, (also called hags in some western countries) have been reported throughout all of history in every culture I can think of. They seem to be supernatural explanations for an uncommon, but not rare, phenomenon called sleep paralysis. What you've described is just what people describe who have experienced this unusual state of sleep.

I completely believe that ghosts and other such things are real but doubt their supernatural status. What they are, I think science still has largely to discover. I know Phil will disagree with me on this completely, but the succubus/incubus/hag phenomenon is a case where science has discovered a perfectly rational and probable explanation for what was previously considered just as supernatural as ghosts.

Thank you, i found the explanation to be enlightening and it makes perfect sense to me when reading about the causes, i DO have a pattern of irregular sleeping over the last few months as i have new shift patterns at work rotating from early morning to late evening every week so the next time it happens i will perhaps be able to not panic and wait for my body to catch up with my brain. Yes i enjoyed the reading on this.
