I've known plenty of escorts/callgirls/massage parlor girls who do enjoy their work and haven't gone through half of what you describe. They're not streetwalkers, though. Some are just trying to do what it takes to make ends meet, put food on the table and a roof over their head for themselves and their children. I used to date a dancer(stripper) in Atlanta. Her roommate was a former dancer that, at the time, worked as an escort. This girl was very intelligent, well mannered, and generally fun to be around. She was very frank about her job when asked questions about it.

The money was great and her clientele was select. She started out with an agency and eventually had enough clients to work independently. She described the work as being part lover, part friend, and part therapist. She said that she was fortunate that she never ran into anyone she felt was deranged or dangerous, which can sometimes happen to girls early in their careers or when they work for a disreputable agency.
