Is love only a one person at a time thing or can you share your heart with more than one person?

I have loved more than one person at the same time but never have I been romantically in love with more than one person at a time. I don't see how it is possible.

Yup - 'in love' is an exclusive state. I think that's one of the things that differentiates loving someone from being in love with someone.

I think there is a big difference between being in love with someone and having love for someone. I think a lot of people get the two confussed in life.

I answered the poll before I really thought about it.

No. Being "in love" excludes the possibility of having the same feeling for someone else, at least in my experience.

No, it is not possible for me to love more than the one man I am in love with. When I am in love I don't see anyone else except him.

I dont think ive ever been in love, not REAL love... if that love exists i dont know if you are capable of getting to that stage with someone else if you already truly have it

Being "in love" means to me something exclusively between you and "one"
other person, and excludes being sexually active with another at the same time. When I am "in love" with another, they are the all and end all for me and my heart and being are completely theirs.

However, I can be in "lust" with another at the same time...which has more to do with the gonads than with the heart....but I would never think of betraying the one I love. That would be absolutely out of the question for me.

There's lots of blanket statements being made that this is only possible with one other person, and I just know from other discussions that people here on lpsg would say, "hey, your mileage is gonna vary from mine." It's the same thing here - just because it doesn't work for you doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

I'm clearly on the other side of this issue from a lot of you. I've been in love with more than one person several times in my life. Deep, rich, full, powerful love - and it works for me, and those I love.
