that you didn`t have anything to eat?
I've come close but no, not so poor I had nothing.
O hell yes and it sucks!!!
Yep, and when i did have anything to eat it was Top Ramen for breakfast, lunch and dinner. with a glass of water.
I saw a guy with a sign the other day it said "Broke, nothing to eat...Very Hungry, Can You Please Help"
Yet he was on a cell phone (iphone) and drinking starbucks, so at the stop sign i said, if your so broke stop drinking starbucks and ditch the smartphone and you could afford some food...he said not a chance...I asked him if he had a home phone or was the iphone his only way to contact, he said of course i have a home phone...He gave me the finger...I said you're not really broke are you? He just smiled back.
yep. was the suck. homeless and hungry are a terrible state of affairs.
lucky for me the cities of dire straights had a thriving freegan and squatter community. made getting by much easier.
About 20 odd years ago, i went through a period where i did not have anything to eat for days on end.
thank ya, Ms. Enid
but for true? i met amazing people, traveled around heaps, and had some amazing times i wouldn't have had if i was a house kitteh.
also learned that when push comes to shove, i shove back harder. like say, i am stronger than i thought i could be. amazonian validation is mine
Yep. I lived off Nissin Top Ramen noodles, 10 for a dollar.
I've come damn close and then some-Might even consider leaving my apt and hook up with someone I know for a spell so's I can get myself back together.
I hope that's not the situation in which you currently find yourself, Luka82.
a few times.
Ramen is a luxury for some. it gets bad when someone catches you eating spam.
Yup. Not homeless, but hungry. Someone gave me a couple of cases of tomato soup. I ate a half a can of tomato soup every day for what seemed like forever. I used to salivate at food people would throw away.
Now, I get a little freaked out if my pantry gets low and I am NOT a picky eater - I take nothing for granted.
I have been a dumpster diver, long ago...also ate off the Hare Krishnas until they tried to get me to commit.
Glad you picked up that, probably had a BMW in the garage.
I can't say that I have ever had to go without anything even during the worse times. I thank the Lord for that everyday.
Yes. A few times. In my third year of university I was flat broke and hungry all the time. I had food stamps for a while but they run out or something, I don't remember. My cat and I lived on cheap peanut butter and wonder bread for many weeks. Actually he had it better because there were plenty of rodents around to catch. My roomie and I sold blood to the Red Cross every week to get some cash.
A couple years later in Germany I spent all my money on a ticket to travel to Africa on a freighter. I had a little cash on me, but that ran out fast in Dakar and I spent a few weeks real hungry until I learned that in West Africa people take care of each other. I was adopted by a seamstress and lived with her family for five months. They got me a job tutoring the kids of the family her sister cleaned for. Eventually I made it down to Nigeria and got a job diving in the offshore oil industry and made enough money to carry on with a traveling.
There was a big difference between being flat broke in America and being broke in Africa. It taught me a lot.
I've never been that broke before, but it's getting that close for me right now. It's not a happy place to be. Especially when you have an overbearing, disabled mother to take care of too. *sigh*
