Hey guys,

I have a question. A pornstar recently slid into my Grindr DM’s and wants to have bareback sex. I never fucked bareback before but have always been curious to try it. I recently got on Prep so I’ve been wanting to try it but I still have this sexual stigma I’m dealing with that fucking bareback is the worse thing ever. He only fucks bareback and has tons of videos on onlyfans however he did say he gets tested every 90 days and recently got tested last week and came back negative. Should I go ahead and do it? I’m lowkey paranoid but also horny and curious.

I'm someone who has way more sex without a condom than I do with a condom (probably one of the main reasons I have 10 kids now). But I have always avoided having sex with someone who tells me that they never use condoms. Prefer to not use a condom? Fine. But tell me no sex unless I agree not to use a condom? I'm outta there.

And remember that as far as testing go, it's only a good indication of his lack of STDs if he hasn't had sex in quite a while. I get tested every 90 days as well. But if I get tested on Monday and have bareback sex on Tuesday, then that test is meaningless. And if I'm not mistaken, some STDs can take more than 3 months to actually show up.

I get being curious about trying bareback sex. But if you do it, do it with someone you trust, someone who would be willing to cover up if you get cold feet in the middle of it. And don't do it if you are at all paranoid. I just don't think it's worth it.

He’s been doing porn for 5+ years now so I’m assuming he’s very responsible about his sexual health otherwise he would have been out of a job. He did say we don’t have to do anything I don’t feel comfortable with but he only fucks bareback so I know that’s what he’s into otherwise there is no point of hooking up. But yeah it might not be worth the anxiety of it but another part of me is saying fuck it, theres a probable chance that I won’t catch anything because he seems responsible of his sexual health.

I'm obviously not going to try to tell you what to do. All I ask is that you don't completely ignore your anxiety about it. My fear is that it would affect your enjoyment of the encounter or leave your wracked with fear and guilt afterwards.

First, you need to be on PrEP consistently for at least 30 days (that is, 30 daily tablets for 30 consecutive days) before you can consider possibly having sex without condoms and not worrying about HIV.

Second, being tested every 90 days might be great, BUT if your possible partner does contract HIV between tests, newly infected people are more infectious in those days and weeks after infection than he will ever be. He would be more dangerous even than a long term HIV-infected person who was not on ANY HIV medications!

Third, if he was a responsible sex partner, he would also be on PrEP himself. If he isn't, then scratch him off for BB sex. PERIOD. It isn't worth the risk, and there is no reason why he shouldn't be on PrEP himself. What he is proposing is unethical and dangerous even if you are on PrEP.

If you decided to have a safer bareback sex experience with someone who wasn't on PrEP, you'd want to choose a partner who is HIV+ but who takes their medications regularly and has no viral load. An HIV+ person with an undetectable viral load cannot transmit HIV to his sex partners, so if you are on PrEP and he is undetectable you have a double insurance policy.

But, BY FAR, your safest BB sex experience should be with someone like you who has been taking PrEP every day for at least a month (and ideally someone who doesn't have a different sexually transmitted disease (STD) like syphilis or gonorrhea.

I have appeared in several porn productions and have been HIV+ for over 25 years (fucking only with guys who were already HIV+ on screen). Up until the last year, I strictly only had sex with other HIV+ guys (without or with a condom), even though I have been on great HIV medications and have an undetectable viral load. It's only been in the last year that I have opened myself up for having bareback sex with HIV- guys who are diligent with their PrEP medications (and so far, that is only one person).

Hope this perspective helps.

My doctor advised to take prep 7 days before I do any sexual activity as it will be effective after 7 days. He is actually on prep as well, he just only fucks raw. But thank you for your perspective! I hate that gay sex has so much stigma behind it.

I have always leaned conservative in pharmaceuticals. My former career was in pharmaceuticals (and vaccines) and I know that not everyone responds to medications in the same way. Scientists do not yet have a definitive answer on how long it takes PrEP to become fully effective after you start taking it. Some studies suggest that if you take PrEP every day, it reaches its maximum protection in blood at 20 days, in rectal tissue at about 7 days, and in vaginal tissues at about 20 days. But, if your rectal tissue is torn (and big dicks can do this), tissue concentration is less useful because you could have direct exposure to blood. I know that past studies indicated that those who are at risk because of drug injections need to have a solid month of PrEP to be best protected from HIV.

We can all be more sex positive today, thanks to PrEP. I'm glad that we have that protection available and am excited about the research on a monthly injected PrEP pharmaceutical that is currently in late studies. It'll help reduce the risk of missed/forgotten doses.

I don't think the precautions are a stigma. Things like this can't be minimized for obvious health reasons. There were and still are dangers in having unprotected sex. STDs and diseases can change your entire life.

On that note, if he's a pornstar, he should be getting tested more than every 90 days. From what I've read and seen in interviews with popular pornstars working with studios, they get tested every two weeks!

As others have said, I'd be very cautious with those who only offer unprotected sex. You'll find that many times, it's not even worth it - even if they're a famous pornstar.

Watch out for yourself.
