Today i heard two men speaking about gay lifestyle and saying it was disgusting. I couldn't believe my ears. They were sitting outside a steam/sauna relaxation area and said the bible said man should lie with a woman and not with another male. They were pretty ignorant and one told the other that a pansexual meant you are attracted to man, woman or animal. The other was visibly horrified and said his kids ask him what LGTBQ means and he feels that it is now in one's face and that gays are victims and trying to force their agenda. He tells his kids that he does not know as it will impact them negatively. One of the guys spoke about a man who he met a few weeks prior who spoke about his struggles as a gay man and how he was punished by society. The man was in his mid fifties according to the man. They had little to no empathy for his plight.
I went into the sauna where another guy was sitting. They came in after me and ratcheted up the conversation saying George Bush was great to defend the heterosexual lifestyle and not pander to the left liberals as they predicted Hilary would have. They said Trump was against gay lifestyle and they applauded him for it and said that the sexual divide would come to a head in violence eventually. They were from Nigeria and Ghana as the conversation moved then to their respective political challenges. I could not believe this conversation about sexuality in such a public place. The other man in the sauna wore a wedding ring and said nothing. I said nothing. When they left we said nothing to each other but there was a huge elephant in the sauna. I am very uncomfortable and sad.

Would you have said something? I felt humiliated and that it was pointless to enter into an argument. But maybe I was wrong??!

I probably would have pointed out to them that the very same bible which they were using to perpetuate their hate towards another person is the exact same bible which states that I was allowed to own both of them.

We weren't there, you were. And it was one against two if you had decided to confront them.

If something like this happens again, make sure you'll be safe if you decide to confront them.
And if you can't find the words that's ok. It's fun and healthy to be assertive but you'd need a little inspiration to hit the mark.

These idiots are stupid and probably can't be reasoned with, so don't fret about too long.

And live your life, be happy and say a hearty "Fuck You" to the lot of 'm by doing that.

As an atheist I have no truck with the dogmas of religions.

However, I am well versed in their intolerance. You have to keep in mind that in many parts of the world, they are still not nearly as progressive, and still stone people to death over adultery and homosexuality. For those two, this was probably a great culture shock for them.

When it comes to politics, I tend to stay out of things. I wouldn't have said anything to them, not out of cowardice, but the simple fact that in the environment they were raised, they are likely permanently set in their ways. We all view things through a cultural prism, a perception filter. Therefore, arguing with people like that is like the old Sicilian proverb about dancing with a pig: it wastes your time and annoys the hell out of the pig.

You cannot help nor control what other people say think or believe. Why would what they've said make you feel sad and uncomfortable?

You cannot and should not let what others think or say interfere with who you are or how you live. Just realizing that it takes all kinds. Not everyone will think like you. Live your life for you and screw what the next guy thinks.

Since they're foreigners, their culture is a different culture. Some cultures are fairly barbaric. Some cultures as stated above stone people, some throw homosexuals off high buildings, or cut off the hand of a thief. Pretty drastic huh?

It's an unfortunate reality we still have to deal with. Eventually, and maybe not even in our lifetime, those dogmas will die out, and the world will be right.

The only thing I would have said is, "Hey guys, I'm/We're trying to relax - do you mind keeping it down, or talking somewhere else? 'Ppreciate it". If they didn't, I'd have removed myself from the situation.

One of my favorite lines - "What other people think of you is none of your business"

Another good line - "Opinions are like assholes. Everyone has one".
