If for nothing else, Heath deserves praise for taking the role in Brokeback Mountain. Can't we pause for a few days and wait for the medical examiner's report before we pass judgment? By then, perhaps, we may conclude that we shouldn't.

Amen, who are we to judge. Besides it appears he may have been on that horrid Stillnox, goes by another name in USA. I was on that for a very brief time, what a horrid drug, should be removed from sale.

Ledger is playing one of my heroes in The Dark Knight, so I've developed an affinity for him. It has nothing to do with his looks, and everything to do with how fantastic his performance is going to be. Being gay, I have always been expected, by far too many people, to be shallow and consider only looks. Gay men are also expected to be fans of Brokeback Mountain, simply based on the subject matter. But I absolutely hated that movie. But one thing can not be denied: Ledger did a wonderful job.

While his death has struck me as an accident with tragic results, one positive thing can come of it. That positive side effect, no pun intended, is the far too often accidental results of prescription drug use. I despise the fact that less attention has been paid to the reality of the drug industry in America, and most 1st world countries for that matter. It can truly be summed up with a comment made by Bill Maher: "We used to have a protracted testing method for new drugs, now, we give them to Courtney Love and if she's still alive in the morning, it's approved."

This man died because he trusted his doctors, who in turn are owned by drug companies, who are in turn concerned only with profits. (A good reason not to vote for Ron Paul, who seems to think the American way is to allow big business to do as they please without the semblence of government concern, which he calls "interference".)

We poison ourselves with the crap we call food, and then we try to counter those effects by popping a pill in our mouths, and we end up dying anyway.

EDIT: I think it's kind of a shame that we can only mourn his death by posting pictures of him naked. I realize that's the point of the site, and I love dick as much as the next member, but I find it inappropriate at this point in time.

Sad! I never have seen a movie he was in, but for someone to die that young with so much talent, as reported, is sad. May he RIP without all of the news media hounds trashing his life, for which he worked hard for.

I don't think anyone is really passing judgment. He had a sleep disorder. I think anyone with this problem needs to be monitored by a family member or a friend. Sleep disorders mixed with meds are a dangerous cocktail. Sleep deprivation can cause hallucinations etc...the list goes on and on. You can sleep walk on ambien, even drive and not know it.

Comon guys and incredible loss to the world? He od'd on sleeping pills. . The fact that he had 6 is evidence that he was abusing. For some reason we see a prescription and that makes it acceptable. Anyone can get a precription.

If he had some good weed he would still be alive and have gotten a good nights sleep. Legalize it!

I'm not dancing on his grave but for petes sake he was just an actor. If you want to memorilize some one there are plenty out there who have made a real impact on the world or who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

I think anyone with talent, sincerity and love to give to the world is a great loss. He was a father and loved his daughter very much. I'm sure his death was an incredible loss to his family and others, so I don't see your point in trying to discount his death.

Joel McHale tonight on The Soup, used the last few minutes of the show to basically say the following:

" In all the years, we been doing this show, Heath never did anything for us to talk about. He was talented young actor, so you weasels stop looking around for something to be mean about him. "

I was wondering if they'd mention it or make a joke about the media, ie, John Gibson. It was really touching and heartfelt.

When you die suddenly at 28 and 6 prescription are found in your room.

I don't use recreational drugs. I have at least 6 prescriptions in my apartment. If I consume too much of a grapefruit product, for example, I could die, arguably within hours after the consumption. By your logic, I would be labelled as having a drug problem. With whatever he was prescribed, if he got disoriented and overmedicated, or simply introduced something with a negative interaction into his system, only a qualified medical professional can determine.

I also tend to immediately dismiss any quote from "an anonymous source, etc." Any policeman who, immediately after viewing a death scene, can't wait to talk about it to the press, isn't professional enough for me to have any credibility whatsoever.

We should all think things through a bit before jumping in on the hype.

Thanks very much for mentioning this. After I read your message last night, I watched the show. Joel's second sentence was actually more like "...stop trying to dig up some dirt on him...he was a talented actor and a decent guy..." and then offering condolences to those who are suffering his loss.

I'm really glad somebody in the media said this. I wonder what it says about our culture that The Soup responded to Ledger's death with more grace and integrity than the legitimate news media?

Here's the schedule of when that episode will air again, if anyone wants to check it out. His comments were squeezed in during the last few seconds of the show.

Saturday, Jan 26, 11:00pm EST
Sunday, Jan 27, 2:00am EST
Sunday, Jan 27, 10:30am EST

It's very sad to me because he's closer to my age, and I thought he was a great example of a creative individual. His family and friends knew what a gifted person he was, and supported him in every step of his career and life. He was also a vulnerable, sensitive and loving guy, which in today's pop entertainment culture, is rare. I was always a little afraid for him though because I think it must have been very hard to stay that open in the film business.
