help on "monkey on my back" from Aerosmith's meaning...

    well I am a great fan of Aerosmith and love this song so much but I m not sure I fully got its meaning... does it speak about drug addiction???

    yeah its kinda like when they say "get of the horse" which speaks to heroin. the whole point tho, is it refers to how if u had a monkey on ur back ud want it off but wouldnt know how to get it off...its somewhat like a drug addiction. people addicted to drugs usually want to quit but dont know how and the monkey is constantly keeping hold.

    So, i don't know if u heard Ashlee Simpson's Murder, from her album Bittersweet World but she sings "i got a monkey on my back, he helped me to get off".

    its a really good song, could u listen and tell me please?

    sure I will listen to this song.. I m always hungry of new music inputs! thanks to therux for explaining me the subtle meaning of the song... I'm from italy and sometimes don't fully get the meaning of idiomatic phrases...

    It's an expression in English, and found in many lyrics. Even the Beatles had a song, Me and My Monkey, which also references this-- an addiction to something, usually drugs, is the monkey on your back.

    'Helped me to get off' means that she eventually could not enjoy herself sexually without the drugs. Maybe a good song but not a good way to live.

    oh thank u, i thought about a real monkey, there's a big color rapper from timbaland house or something like that and i thought he was the monkey when i first listened it
