My family is taking I-75 from Michigan to Orlando, Florida. Anyone have any suggestions of places I might want to stop and check out? No big cities, as we want to by-pass them.

I know there are a couple people I would want to meet in Atlanta, NJ and Erect, but I hear the traffic is crazy and the general rule for snow birds is to avoid Atlanta like the plague.

So...any suggestions? Points of historic interest? Architecture? And of course, natural beauty.

Key West is very beautiful. It is about 2 and 1/2 hours south of Miami.

For historic interest St. Augustine, FL is the nation's oldest city.

Thanks mem, I edited my post because I forgot to put my destination. Is St. Augustine on the coast?

It's on the east coast just south of Jacksonville.

Saint Augustine, FL, USA - Google Maps

While in Orlando you could make a side trip to the Kennedy Space Center. I'd estimate it's about a 1-1.5 hour drive, depending on traffic.

Depending on how you plan your road trip, hitting the Tennesee Smoky Mountains at sunrise is a breathtaking drive. I made the trip from Missouri to Fort Lauderdale then to Orlando and loved it. Just be careful on the Florida turnpike. With out of state plates, they may watch you closely so don't do too much under the speed limit as they may think you are transporting drugs.

Thanks for the tip about the turnpike. I've heard certain places, like Tenessee, they will pull you over for going 70 in a 65mph zone.

So, stick to the speed limits in the States, got it.

Can't help with east coast sights. If you ever come out west (where the real scenery is) let me know.
