I suppose disgust is not the right term, but I would have a lot of difficulty getting it up for a female. It's just not something I respond to.

These weren't friends of hers, simply sexual/romantic prospects. It's the ultimate hetero male fantasy until they realise there's a possibility their hot bi girlfriend might leave them for a woman. Then they just become insecure. Not that this happens with every hetero male with a bi girlfriend, but it has happened quite often with my best friend.
It depends on the individuals involved, of course, their relative security/insecurity, and the nature and parameters of the relationship. People have lots of different reactions around this, and it runs the gamut.
Has she gotten involved with any of the bisexual support groups in Toronto? It would probably be good to socialize and interact with some like-minded people and see how they handle it.

As far as the male hetero girl/girl porn fantasy, I was mostly joking. That usually has more to do with a guy projecting himself sexually into the situation, if only in fantasy. That doesn't mean he's comfortable with genuine real live lesbian desire, more often not I think.

Can we stop with the "heterophobia" crap? This is just a word invented by homophobes, in effort to pass on the concept that they are discriminated against. Enough!

Cocktaste raises a point. To be heterophobic indicates prejudice against all heterosexuals, males included. If we are discussing disgust by young gay men for women, it would be misogyny. One thing, the sample indicates no correlation between age and disgust by gay men for sex with women. That's interesting.

I think I’ve known gay men who might genuinely be misogynistic. More typically they probably live in gay ghettos and might be into some urber-masculine gay scene such as a leather scene. Such men might seem to be oblivious to women, to treat women as non-entities. I can’t say I’ve been in a situation to know if one of these men would discriminate against women in the workplace, but I would have been suspicious.

I can’t say I think such behavior is particularly characteristic of gay men in general nor even of gay men into specifically masculine gay male scenes. I do think any gay male who finds himself living in a gay ghetto mostly of males might want to give it a thought.

As to anyone, of either gender, of any sexual preference, feeling that he must justify his preference for any adult characteristics, or worse, apologize for not being attracted to others because they are a “type,” I think we should stand strong and object. I hardly think it is discriminatory or wrong for straight men to find the idea of sex with males distasteful. I hardly think a gay man, or lesbian, should be ashamed about finding sex with the opposite gender yucky. I don’t think we are inappropriately racist if we do not want to have sex with persons of one or more races. I don’t think being disinterested in sex with persons because of their age is wrong.

We have obligations to respect one another and not discriminate in many ways – but having sex should not be one of them.

I used the word "heterophobia" (in quotations) for lack of a better word. I should've used misogynistic, but I was drawing parallels to internalized homophobia. That said, you really do need to broaden your understanding of terms. Misogyny within the gay world can certainly be considered characteristic of heterophobia. It is not reserved exclusively for the use of homophobic men.

Left off a few options on the poll. I'm BISEXUAL and my ultimate fantasy is to be with my husband and a woman at the same time. He's totally gay and fits into older, and disgusted by women.
No, I didn't. Why would a bisexual (or heterosexual, for that matter) male be disgusted by the thought of being with women?

I suppose disgust is not the right term, but I would have a lot of difficulty getting it up for a female. It's just not something I respond to.
Likewise.

Nah, she's very comfortable in her sexuality. She's been aware of her bisexuality since elementary school. These things are more inconveniences to her than anything else.

Yes, I should've put misogynistic, but again, I was drawing parallels to internalized homophobia.

I found that fascinating as well.

Chase, the thread title, OP and my subsequent posts were meant to be controversial to get discussion flowing. In reality, I don't feel this strongly about the topic. However, I'm an idiot and couldn't properly convey the point I wanted to make.

I do not have any problem with gay wo/men feeling disgust toward the opposite gender (although, I do still feel that "disgust" is a very strong word). My problem lies with those who exaggerate feelings of disgust. I have known gay men that go out of their way to let everyone know just how disgusted they are by women. They emphasize every chance they get that the idea of sleeping with a woman, or the vagina itself, disgusts them to no end. Obviously, some people may genuinely feel that strongly, but I doubt that's the majority. You can be disgusted by the opposite gender without having to throw out that fact every chance you get. It just comes off as insecurity, and quite frankly, it's rude.

Asking people to justify their disgust was unfair, and I apologise. It was simply out of pure curiosity.

Thanks for your input.
