Recently, I added an option to our profiles at LPSG that allow us to indicate our sexual orientation. I used the words "heterosexual" and "homosexual" and so far, I haven't received any complaints. What do you all think of those words, and would you prefer to see the words "straight" and "gay" instead?

How about "dull conformist" and "absolutely fabulous"?

BRMSTN69: How about adding bi-courious and str8 trade to the options?

Hetero and homosexual are so clinical, while straight and gay are more everyday, but I don't think it's any big deal. I call myself straight, not heterosexual, but I don't take offense to the technical term. I personally don't think that the sexual identity meter needs to be in the profile. If a member wants to put it in their profile, they should be able to put it in there, but right now, they have to put something--or lie about it if they are not comfortable stating their true identity.
I don't care what someone is, if I want to be their friend, their sexual identity doesn't concern me. If they are doing illegal acts with minors, that would concern me, but if they have a partner they care about, it's not my place to condemn or judge--only to support. So, my vote, is not to worry about terminology, but to take out the whole sexual identity meter thingy in the profile and let people type in their own thing if they want to, and if they don't want to, they shouldn't have to.

BRMSTN69 is correct. No one has to answer the question. That's why the option, "No Response", is the default choice in the drop-down box.

aww, DMW, ass-bandit or ass-pirate has much more flair than breeder- can't us poor str8 ppl get a better handle??? lol. From what I've seen on these threads, only two choices might be a bit narrow. Mark, you may want to consider a couple more for those who would like to be identified by bisexual or bicurious rather than blank.

Actually, if you take a look at it, Madame, you'll see that there are 10 choices, everything from 100% hetero and 0% homo to 100% homo and 0% hetero.

Click on "My Controls" and then scroll down until you see "Edit profile settings" on the left-hand side. Click that link and you'll be able to indicate your sexual orientation on your profile for all to see. ;)

When I went there, it was clicked on 100% straight, I didn't know there was a "no response" option. I've now clicked it on there. Personally, given the number of posts I've read, and also from personal experience, there should be a, "Yeah, I've tried it, no big deal" option, too LOL The continuum of sexual experience is far too hard to describe in just a few words.

That's why there's a range of percentages. If anything, there are probably too many options, but I'd rather have a full range than to force people to choose between "straight", "bi", and "gay".

What about bi or bi-curious or tatusexual or DL or prison gay or occasionally-fantasizes or yestergay/hasbian or skexual or . . . My point is that it's hard to define people as one preference or another and we're constantly adding new labels for these in-between points.

I would say that a guy like that should rate himself with at least a 10% homosexual component on the LPSG Sexual Orientation scale. :p

Oh please...you can change your percentages at any time - you're not being put "in a box".

Sincerely, I meant that as a joke. Sometimes I am only amusing to myself. I apologize if I offended, certainly didn't mean to. I appreciate the gender/sexuality scale since you gave everyone many options. Sorry. Sometimes my sarcasm just doesn't fly.
