Capt. Owen Honors, a self-avoid and avid heterosexual, of the Norfolk-based USS Enterprise broadcast to his crew a series of profanity-laced comedy sketches in which he uses gay slurs, mimics masturbation and opens the shower curtain on women pretending to bathe together.

Also reported by the Huffington Post.

Yup. Being openly gay in the military is certain going to ruin the 'Mericuh we love where you can "Be as bigotted and sexist as you can be!"

Captain Honors sure makes me feel proud. It's patriots like him that make me feel all red, white, and bluish.

Edit: And has anyone mentioned to Glenn Close she makes a cameo in some of these videos?

Is this really offensive? I don't feel offended. It's fairly tame I think, clearly meant to be humorous rather than nasty. Well, the scat scene was nasty, as they always are to me.

He's obviously straight. A gay man would insist on higher production values and much better material.

Houtx48, "after watching he needs court marshaled for wasting Government supplies and time, not clever not funny a snoozefest. Fire the writer."

Bbucko, "He's obviously straight. A gay man would insist on higher production values and much better material."

I agree with both of you. But I know for a fact that anyone caught making their own "home" videos in a professional studio without paying for the time and rental of the equipment, they'd be fired ASAP and probably threatened with litigation, (and Capt. Honor's videos were widely seen by everyone, including his commanding officers).

If the military would like to chip in and help cut costs to reduce the budget canning Capt. Honor's ass out of the Navy would be a good start.

May the Good Captain find himself in the unemployment line.

Personal use of Government Equipment without permission
Offensive Material to some minority groups
Offensive slurs towards one minority group which is conduct unbecoming an officer.
An insult to the United States navy and the fine men serving our Country

The video on YouTube was already censored, and considering that there's 2 years worth of stuff (as stated by the people on the video) I'm sure there may have been some really raunchy material that we'll never see. But MLB nailed it on the head... any employee caught doing their own personal projects in a professional studio without paying for the time and rental of the equipment would be immediately fired and/or sued. I've never been in a professional music or video studio where this hasn't been the case. I can't see how Capt. Owen Honors shouldn't be reprimanded for what he did, regardless if the content was offensive to some people or not.

Thee "Military" finally noticed his actions:
"
NORFOLK, Va. — Raunchy comedy videos made by a high-ranking Navy commander and shown to the crew of an aircraft carrier three or four years ago have suddenly proved an embarrassment to the Pentagon that could blight the officer's career.
The videos, released Sunday by a newspaper in this Navy port city, feature Capt. Owen Honors using gay slurs, pantomiming masturbation and staging suggestive shower scenes. They were played on the shipwide television system during weekly movie night when Honors was executive officer, or second in command, of the USS Enterprise. Honors has since become commander of the ship.
Over the weekend, the Navy at first downplayed the videos as "humorous skits," then called them "not acceptable" and said they are under investigation.
Navy sources told NBC News
that Honors "will be temporarily relieved of his command as early as Tuesday" while the investigation is taking place."

Ignoring the inappropriate and offensive content, and skipping past the realization that anyone producing or viewing this stupid crap would find it entertaining or humorous - what I find equally disturbing is that a narcissistic total dweeb 'starring' in such unredeemable schlock would be put in command of an aircraft carrier in a war zone. As I understand it, his superiors were aware of the complaints. Presumably someone higher up saw the vids and knew what was going on, and if not, they should have.

Never mind what it says about Capt. Honors, what does it say about the U.S. Navy command establishment?

6000 people saw the videos......I would venture to say some high ranking individuals were in that number. I like a good fag joke as much as the next queen but these were lame, 14 year old's come up with better stuff.

The word I dislike as much as the good old "N" word is fag or faggot. I watched about 10 episodes (a season?) of Two-and-a-Half Men until I couldn't deal with the all of the dispersions of the little kid saying "That's gay!", or "That's faggy!", or calling his father a "fag", etc. Sure, that's the way kids talk. And who let's them get away with it?

Hate is taught and reinforced by those who teach it. It doesn't matter if Capt. Honor was making lame jokes about homosexuals that 14 year-olds would find lame. It's simply not acceptable; especially by members of the USA Military, and especially by high ranking officers. Heard any good "N" word jokes lately? Well, keep them to yourself.

I'm so tired of straight men trying to make themselves look straighter than an arrow.

"Very" heterosexual men always deny the existence of male bisexuality, and insist on the highly constrastive dichtonomy of purely gay, purely straight. Obviously they know little about their sexuality, let alone human sexuality in general.

Although I freely admit that some straight men very much enjoy looking at lesbian porn, there seems to be this sort of latent male homosexual desire lived vicariously through lesbian sex; that is, secret gay desires are projected onto "fake" lipstick lesbians. So in sum, it's like saying: we can't make ourselves gay in film, so let's make the women (despite the actual attraction to women and the sex acts in the scenes).

This just in: Cap "Honors" has been relieved of command of the USS Enterprise and will likely spend the remainder of his dishonorable career pushing papers around some office in the Pentagon and hoping people forget about him. The investigation continues into what more senior officers may have known about his activities, and whether they were negligent or may have covered up for him. We shall see if more shoes fall.

Maybe the most important point here is that in his role as Executive Officer (the "XO" referred to in the videos) he is tasked with enforcing standards of conduct and maintaining good order and discipline. Somehow I don't think making light of those standards of conduct quite achieves that. It begs the question how he could sit in judgement of his subordinates in the event they violated those standards. His conduct is especially galling in the wake of the Tailhook scandal, which everyone in naval command is acutely aware of.
