When it was originally made and became popular, it was created by and for girls who couldn't handle watching hentai ("regular" anime porn), which can be violent or demeaning at times.... and is really made mostly just with guys in mind. So, since straight girls couldn't even stand watching straight hentai, they made yaoi -- which has guys and a great deal of the romance hentai so obviously lacks, which fit their needs very well.

a relative of mine in Japan that worked in a book store told be about this and some other things I found interesting......

I was also surprised to hear that little female anime dolls that people can dress up are bought more by guys then girls.....in fact they even sell clothes separately and they sell like hot cakes. That’s something you won't see happen here in North America

Hey, you should see how gender-bending some G/PG-rated anime are. I mean besides the obvious Ranma 1/2, there's also Sailor Moon, but most of the transgender is not seen by dubbies. (And in fact, some of the dub characters are transgender so that the gay characters become straight. Of course, that's okay: All anime dubs suck major balls anyway.)

Yea jonb lol its funny how the American companies that license anime turn things around to avoid "problems"

Ever heard of the anime tekkaman? wow i heard there is many transgendered characters in it....... when it was briefly aired on television a few years ago they did the same thing...they made some characters straight and the male characters that dressed and look like females ....well they got female voices to make them female

OMG, I loved Aeon Flux&#33; It was the weirdest, grossest anime I had seen at the time, I wondered if it was still around...

I like the regular hentai porn too tho, saw one called "Postal rape" that was a scream- I am able to look at it as it is intended- funny. Pretty hot too.
