My thought is to ask your elders, not your contemporaries. Folks who've lived 30 or 40 years longer than we've lived have a much better perspective.
I have chronic pain and fatigue. Who can tell now if it's from almost 30 years of HIV, from 20 years of HIV meds, or from normal aging?
I do think there's a qualitative difference between normal "aches and pains" and chronic pain. But, hey, one has to go on, doesn't one?
I'm so empathetic with your experiences. How annoying is it to have your body conspire against your desires? You're not alone.

if you haven't had a thorough physical in a while, it might be a good to do so. you may need medication to resolve something you don't know you have. also, the physical establishes a baseline for comparison in the future.

At 53, I have my days as well. I never danced until I was 48 and now I try to go 2-3 times a week. Also still playing music in bars is fun and satisfying, but it is the hauling of amps and just standing with a heavy guitar over your shoulder for 4 sets that is doing in my knees and hips. So I stretch before gigs or dancing, try to get a good nights sleep. Eat a banana and a couple of Tylenol before I leave and take some potassium when I get home. Used to be gig nights were when I was looking to get lucky but now those are the nights I too tired and sore to get frisky but I WILL make exceptions...lol...
I found that Taoist/Tantric sexual exercises have allowed me much more controol over my orgasms over the years I've been practicing. Multiple ingasms and quicker refractory periods which are also more satisfying since as I was getting older it took me longer generally to ejaculate. Now with the technique I can generally injaculate a handful of times before eventually ejaculating. Highly recommended but takes a bit of work to master. I still can j/o 3-4 times a day if I've no plans to go out on the town and hope I can keep that up as well. ED drugs are also fun and helpful on occasions when I've had a long or stressful week and find myself with some hot dates lined up.
And I wholeheartedly agree with keeping informed about your health, going to the Doctor on a fairly regular basis and just trying to take care of yourself. I could afford to lose a few pounds and even just a couple makes a huge difference in energy at this age.
I went to New Orleans to a dbl. bachelor party last year and I was 20 yrs older than all 35 guys we went with and I was the only one who didn't nap, didn't get sunburnt, the only one who didn't puke (though I drank my share of those wonderful concoctions down there) and I guarantee you I had more fun, got more phone numbers and remembered more than the rest of them. Smarts, pacing, sunscreen, not being a dick to the ladies that you meet, all paid off for me. Age has it's benefits!

i've got the hand and elbow thing - at one point when i was working 3 jobs that all were at computers it got so bad it became hard to lift my arms - squeezing a rubber ball (the kind designed for stress seems to be a good size for me) really really helps a whole lot - told a friend that was facing carpal tunnel surgery about it - she has been doing it for a couple of weeks and is no longer considering the surgery.

I'm 55, and I take good care of myself ... in part because I really, really hate how I feel when I don't. I work out and do yoga regularly. I meditate, too, and think that helps, too. I get a check-up every year from the doc.

When I don't invest time in my physical body, I start feeling the little aches and pains. If I consistently take care of myself, I really don't get troubled by that stuff.

ALSO ... stress adds up. I tend to hold stress in my lower back and hips, and if I let it build up too much, it affects how my whole body feels. Yoga helps with that. Also, not trying to be superman and keeping my attitude positive helps.

All that psychological and physical stuff ... that we think are so different from each other ... is all the same.

I made exercise and fitness a permanent part of my life after graduating high school. On a regular basis, I run and hit the gym. I believe that it has really paid off. I can still run a mile in 6:30 minutes, I can not only touch my toes but touch the floor flat handed, put my foot behind my head (why?), and bench press my own weight. Last week, I camped outside in a tent with my son for 4 days. I looked around and found that it was all younger people camping in tents. I am very thankful for my health. I have had surgery on both of my knees which causes a little stiffness once in a while but nothing worth complaining about. I worked on a farm when I was younger which has led to sun damage to my skin so I appear older than I really am. I have fun with it. I get a real kick out of out running or out lasting a 20-year old.

I'm impressed.
This is obviously not only good maintenance but good genes. (Not everyone can manage to run a 6:30 mile ... at any age.)

I've never had computer related carpal tunnel issues before but recently noticed waking up from a nap or in the middle of the night with numbness in my fingers. It seems to involve the angle of my wrist(s) when sleeping. I have to consciously straighten my wrists to get blood flowing again. I've also noticed some recent pain in my elbow joint but not sure what that's about because I can't say I've done anything to injure it.
I've had carpal tunnel surgery on both hands with excellent results.
Those symptoms you describe are classic.
My neurologist diagnosed carpal tunnel syndrome immediately after I described them ... and, of course, then had further investigative work to confirm. (Nerve conduction tests showed that one nerve in my right hand was conducting no impulses at all.)
I would definitely speak with your physician about these observations.
The longer you let the condition persist, the more nerve damage that can occur. (Or at least, so they say ... I had symptoms for 10 years before surgery, and had an immediate improvement with no real side effects.)
Splints will certainly help by preventing the wrists from curling during sleep.
But the splints were a very mixed blessing for me.
I found they made falling asleep difficult.

I'm 53. For 30+ years I've had neck trouble and it has now turned into arthritis.
My pain management doctor prescribed megadoses of opoids. I always "didn't feel good" and I constantly felt sick. It reminded me of motion sickness. I still had horrible headaches and always felt I was close to puking.
The opoids were to be taken every 8 hours instead of the usual 12 hour schedule. Even with that I was only getting about 5 hours of relief.
A few months back the pain management doctor wanted me to go to a de-tox/rehab hospital. She couldn't prescribe any other pain pills and she said the process would wash out the opoids and a couple of months afterwards she could prescribe opoids if they were necessary but other patients who had gone through the process often didn't need opoids/narcotics.
She was correct. The neck pain is now controlled by prescription strength Alleve. Apparently the other symptoms were a side effect of the opoids.
For the first time in 5+ years I've actually felt like living. I don't think I will ever take the opoids again. Even on the days I have neck pain I still feel "good". And, as stated above Alleve keeps it under control.
Other than the neck pain issues I don't feel much different than I did in my 40s.
There is a group of physicians and other experts believe that men go through our version of menopause and our testosterone levels fall, with the symptoms that arise out of that.
Mine was low so he prescribed Androgel. The most noticeable effect has been that my body fat has dropped to almost nothing and I have "better" muscles than ever in my life! The other is that I have become very hairy, which I like.
I've been "hit on" by men and women of every age group. They like the muscles and hair. On the one hand it has been great for my ego and sex life but it still is hard to believe that the compliments are true.
Sexually, I've not noticed the results that most other people report. I'm not incredibly horny and my dick's performance and appearance are not different.
Something that I have discovered is that older (40 and as old as 72) men are actually much better partners. Many of them need more stimulation and time to become hard enough for anal penetration. I love it! I love sucking dicks and especially causing a little, soft dick to grow in my mouth to a huge size!
I've had some partners who felt they needed Viagra. This has been common with guys who are gigantic, regardless of their age. Without Viagra their dicks don't get super hard, which makes it difficult to penetrate a tight butt.
When they take it I know I have 30 to 45 minutes to enjoy his dick in the ways I prefer. Of course, I know I will be eventually rewarded by a hard, full-sized dick for several hours!
The foreplay is much more satisfying. The intamacy feels real and their is much more kissing, culding, wrestling, etc.

Not to leave out sexual performance in this discussion, I should add that I've not experienced any issues there. The plumbing still works well and I still get off about once a day though have been known to go for a week or two without any attempts at release. Then there are days when I JO a couple times a day.
I turned 59 in April. I'm blessed that I still get off really well. Damn! The sucker feels like it's exploding when I orgasm! I'm sporadic also. I have had days where I J/O 3 times, and then go 4 or 5 days with nothing.

There are some aches and pains that happen, but fortunately, they don't happen that often, and they are usually minor. My athletic prowess has diminished a bit, but it's to be expected. I'm happy with where I'm at and hope that physically I stay as I am or improve. Eating right and exercise keeps us young for our years.

Uh ... yeah. At 46, I find there are part of me that just don't move the way they used to (knees, back, shoulders, fingers). I should have taken better care of myself while I was young. On the sexual side there are differences, too, some good, some bad. I never had multiple orgasms until I hit 40. Even at 20, I'd need 10 or 15 minutes to recharge, even though I'd still stay half hard. Now I can have several small orgasms before the big squirt, then I'm done for an hour or two. It used to be I'd have one massive orgasm, then recharge 15 minutes and go again.

Interesting, I'm 43 and last year it started for me, full orgasm w/ ejac and about a minute later, another just as strong w/ full ejac, then soon after... bam! here comes another!! My GF and I just kinda stared at each other as if we hit some kind of jackpot! I mean everyone told me my eyes would start to go when I hit 40... and they have, but nobody ever told me about this!
I'm thinking it's really just how much your partner turns you on but if it has to do with age, I can't wait for 80!... watch out little candy-stripped volunteer girl - stay behind the wheel chair or you might get injured!

I'll be 64 in a couple of months. When I was 25, I felt older than I do now. So I quit smoking and drinking, and started following the general health care industry recommendations with regard to diet and exercise, etc., without getting too obsessive-complusive about it. I've managed to pass through my entire adult life with virtually no medical expenses or major health problems.

My conclusion is that the key to slowing down the inevitable deterioration associated with aging to an absolute minimum is to: (1) stop doing the stupid risky things that people do when they're young, (2) practice moderation in everything (don't exercise yourself to death or OD on vitamins), and (3) get your rocks off at least once a day and preferably more.

I'm 44 and in better shape than I was in my 20's. I'm better in bed, too, as I can last a lot longer and fuck alot harder without cumming. One thing I've noticed is that back then I could cum 3-4 even 5 times a day easily, whereas nowadays I'd have to be really turned on to want to cum 3 times in a day.
