...You must tell your housemate 'taupe' is the gayest colour on the planet...it's kind of an 'ironic' shade of pink...basically it's a 'straight acting and appearing' fuscia...

Considering the fact that every public space in the house (except the bathroom) is painted in shades of taupe that he picked out, I have to agree with Arthur that, at least in certain lights (and especially in the all-taupe kitchen) it indeed appears a softish blush
I spent 25+ years as a professional in the home fashions industry: selling, buying, designing, etc. When I first was introduced to it at the height of the black-&-gray boom of the 80s, it was described as "brown next to gray and gray next to brown". But even at its earthiest mushroominess, taupe really is a butched-up blushy sort of pink in man-drag.
I should add that he **loves** to accessorize all that taupe with purple, which somehow passes his "masssculine" smell test.
