It's only the fifth and already I'm gritting my teeth with a fixed smile at the obnoxiously cheerful Christmas music played effing constantly by annoyingly perky coworkers.

Enough!

Twenty days of madness left to endure yet so I thought I might repay them by playing some Xmas tunes of my own. I'm looking for songs in the spirit of the season that either mock it outright or are listenable without the cavity inducing triteness.

My list so far for my "Holy Inappropriate Christmas" CD :

YouTube - The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl - Fairytale of New York
YouTube - The Darkness - Christmas Time (Don't Let The Bells End)
YouTube - The Kinks -- Father Christmas (better audio)
YouTube - Barenaked Ladies - Elf's Lament

I have several others I couldn't find clips for, including a carol sung in Klingon.

For non-cloying Xmas positive music I like -

YouTube - DAVID FOSTER NATALIE COLE GROWN UP CHRISTMAS LIST
YouTube - Faith Hill - Where Are You Christmas
YouTube - U-MV160 - Sting - Gabriel's Message

If any of you have any other suggestions for 'non traditional' Xmas music I'd be grateful if you'd share it.

Christmas jazz trio arrangements don't bother me. My favorite Christmas recording ever is the Greensleeves/What Child is this from the Charlie Brown Christmas soundtrack. Vince Guaraldi rules

I really don't get why people hate this joyful holiday. Bitterness?

Two of my favorite Christmas songs are on this list! (The two being the Pogues and Kirsty MacColl - "Fairytale of New York" and Sting - "Gabriel's Message".)

I get sick and tired of the same old, same old in Christmas music (I work in retail and I hear the same songs over and over in a loop! ARGH!)

Here's more of my very favorites (positive type):

Blackmore's Night - "Christmas Eve"
YouTube - Blackmore's Night, "Christmas Eve"

Loreena McKennitt - "Dickens' Dublin"
YouTube - Dickens Dublin - Loreena McKennitt

And I can't find it anywhere on YouTube, but Henry Rollins reading "Twas the Night Before Christmas" is a hoot! Not to be missed!

LMAO!!! i was at walgreens here last week and they were playing christmas music. i burst out laughing at the checkout cuz the song was so fucking dumb. i was so embarassed b/c i burst out laughing out of nowhere and everyone was looking at me like "wtf is wrong with HER?" but it was pretty hilarious.

i hate christmas music. a few years ago when i was living with a friend, EVERY FUCKING MORNING, she would blast christmas music while she showered. or new kids on the block. it pissed me off!

Gary Hoey. Most rocking Christmas cds ever.
Gary Hoey- Deck the Halls

YouTube - Gary Hoey- The Twelve Days of Christmas

YouTube - Gary Hoey- You're a mean one Mr.Grinch

And of course Linus and Lucy

I sincerely hope no one mentioned Trans Siberian Orchestra. They have one good song. And that song is an absolute masterpiece. But otherwise...sheer boredom
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7iY4Tom6-wM <--epic, one of the most powerful performances I've ever heard. It was the song that spawned the group. It's about this guy

I'm the blonde boy!

There were about three blonde men in that video. (Actually, there were four. But his head was capped off frame in the beginning. The one with the cowboy hat? The one who is singing "Coca-Cola" near the end?

I remember that commercial. That came on during commercial breaks "Charlie Brown Christmas" CBS Special. Along with those commercials with some guy or lady talking about what happens when they eat York Peppermint Patties.

Those mint sweets were vile and digusting.

"When I bite into a York Peppermint Patty...I get the sensation of chocolate vomit and peppermint bile rising up from the bottom of my stomach projectile hurling onto the executive chef who created that nasty confection."

My favorite song during the Christmas season....

YouTube - Joni Mitchell - River

I love Yorks! Maybe it's more nostalgia than taste though - my mommy always had them around.
