I was just talking to my brother about the 250,000.00, 200,000,00 TAX CEILING. I thought it was per capita. I now realize it is per household...I just realized I might not want to be redistributed!...

Not to mention we are only hearing what they are telling us before the election, if NObama and his gang get control there will be suffering well-beyond what they admit now.

I come from what some people would say is a 'Socialist/Marxist' country and now that I live in the US I am confused by all the suffering that will happen at the hands of Obama?

I can not believe I am saying this! I work hard for my salary. Why should I be penalized or an senior be penalized that finally gets to the point where he or she is no longer scraping bottom. I already pay a bigassed boatload of taxes on my salary as it is....

The $250000 is for a married couple, the $200000 is for a single individual.

Barack Obama and Senator McCain both support extending the Bush tax cuts for all families making less than $250,000 (singles making under $200,000). Therefore, the model assumes that the Bush tax cuts are extended in 2009 for approximately 98% of taxpayers under both candidates' plans.

For the approximately 2% of earners above $250,000, John McCain supports extending the Bush tax cuts, while Barack Obama has proposed rolling back a portion of those tax cuts. This tax calculator assumes that those rollbacks are in effect under the Obama plan; accordingly, married couples making over $250,000 (singles making over $200,000) will pay the top two marginal rates that prevailed in the 1990s and will pay a 20% rate on capital gains and dividends.

I personally don't see it as penalization especially if it helps fund either universal or at a least a two tier healthcare system, improving k-12 education and subsidizing post secondary education.

The capitalist in me can see the fear of taxes, but IMO everyone should have the right to quality healthcare and education.

Babe, I am already at the point where I am only getting one third of my salary. I would love it if I could decide where my money goes....

You pay 77% income tax? If that's the case you should move to Canada, you will get taxed less and you will get all of the benefits of their lefty government... either that or talk to your accountant on potential write offs

I have to laugh (because if I don't I'd cry) at these so called patriots who bemoan the idea of having to pay an extra 5% on earned income above $250,000.

To think how much they saved over the past eight years while so many others suffered, not to mention the 4500+ Americans who lost their lives in a war the crooked Bush & Co. lied us into.

Where is your sense of equity? Where is your sacrifice? Where is your honor and decency? Shame on you. Shame on you!

because you are now "rich". (250k a year) i am sure you and husband aren't going to miss that extra $7500 a year from going back to the 36% bracket from the 33% one...after all, over 4 years, you'll only have to pay $30,000 dollar more of your hard earned money

you should see what is going to happen to your capital gains taxes, and if you sell your home as well if it is valued over $500,000.

I've said this many times, it's not the tax that's the issue. It's what is done with those taxes after they are taken from me. Dollar for dollar is NOT going to people in need, programs and various other government ran "programs" water this money down. Both sides waste, we had a surplus in the 90s but still had massive debt, the two are not one and the same. The recession started in 99' and has been up and down since and Clinton is the one that signed the "Deregulation issue" everyone wants to harp on. With major backing from top Democratic officals (Biden being one). The republican party is spend crazy, we need to slow down.

I do not have an issue with money helping people out, I just don't want the hard earned money I made being flushed down the proverbial toilet instead of having it all go to actual people.

I own multiple properties and involved in a couple small business and fall into the "250 + a year" group. However I am also a Vet that has served in every conflict we have been involved with since 89'. We are talking about a tax plan here, so let's not drag in "honor and decency", people wanting to be protective of money they earned has nothing to do with "honor". You will typically find that most people that are doing well also donate time and money above what they have taxed from them.

We'll shall see how much "change" we actually get, change doesn't always work for the better, let's hope it does this time.
