Hey fellas - due to a lot of different things (the biggest being Christmas coming and my birthday on the 22nd), I’m feeling really down. Like, really really down. Hence me posting at 5:28am. I really need some cheering up, however you think might help. I just need to know that someone cares. Y’all are the best.

I have a few friends, who have birthdays just before Christmas; or just after. Thay all joke that they get cheated out of presents, as their families, somehow combine the activities into one single activity..

Christmas , will be here and gone in a few weeks, so you will have the rest of the year to enjoy yourself

Birthday Wishes, in advance

Thanks for sharing, yes this can be a challenging time of the year.
Hard to say why we experience these emotions but they are very real and for me come in cycles.
I try to watch my diet, get plenty of activity limit my alcohol but not much works. Meditation works as good as anything.
Have you seen a doctor for this?
Yes I care as have been going through this for many years myself.
Try to find a few good things that are around us? I even tried volunteer work and helped the less fortunate was beneficial.
Take care of yourself and wishing you happiness and a happy birthday!

people who are alone, or who feel alone when others are around but they dont get along,
get depressed during holidays.
The best thing to combat this is to binge on films, one or two at night, with peanut popcorn
blankets and a foot massaging device with warm water.

Why are you feeling down? I don't want to assume anything.

Does your overall mood begin to drop in Fall?

Even if we don't know what, or why, there is a reason we're all here. It often takes time, a lot of it, to figure out what that is. If you are a Christian, remember why we celebrate Christmas. If you are alone, perhaps reach out to others who are also alone. Few things help us as much as helping others.

I try to remember the Footsteps story when I feel this way. It helps to know we're never truly alone unless we choose to be.

Know that you are not truly alone unless you choose to be. We're all here for you if you need us.

Just hang in there buddy. It'll get better. Time has a way of healing all wounds.

Years ago a coworker whose birthday was Dec. 25 told me her family celebrated her birthdays on June 25! :) Come to think of it one of my school chums said his family did the same.

As for holiday depression it's caused by the reality never living up to the hype. When I lowered/let go my expectations of the season I was cured of the holiday blues.

The cool thing about birthdays so close to Christmas must be that you rarely had to go to school and still get the day off work, right? The other cool thing must be that everyone is in a festive mood in the preceding days. Party party party.

My January birthday is early enough in the month to land smack in the wake of the holidays when everyone's still hung over from the excess and trying to live up to their New Year's resolutions to eat less cake and exercise more! :joy:

Of course people care for you. And you care for yourself.

I try to remember the Footsteps story when I feel this way. It helps to know we're never truly alone unless we choose to be.

The biggest problem is that I lost my job at the end of October due to one of my employees' misconduct. I had a couple of really promising interviews the week before Thanksgiving, and I thought everything was going well, and now the company is dragging their feet. The higher-ups have communicated very little, but I'm still hopeful. It just means I'm probably waiting until January to pay any bills (now that my savings have been gone through), and I can't provide even the smallest Christmas for my siblings, parents, or nieces. I also can't even really afford to give myself a birthday anything, and I try to each year since it often gets lost in the bustle of the holidays (my birthday is the 22nd).

I still have my students that I coach, but they will be on holiday soon, and my time otherwise is spent online applying for jobs. Somedays I can't even bring myself to leave the house. My Netflix is on overdrive (until they suspend it for non-payment).

It's probably the biggest rut I've ever found myself in, at the worst time of the year.

I never had to go to school, but I've hardly ever gotten the day off completely from work - I've worked in industries (hospitality and retail) where it's the insanely busy time of year, so I've usually worked in the morning and gone out for dinner.

Going out isn't really in the cards right now :-/

Christmas isn't about spending money on friends and family to show how much you love them.
I know how tough times can be and how much it sucks to be jobless and think that people expect you to give them or yourself a gift. Don't feel guilty, you aren't alone in this situation.
Companies are the worst when it comes to getting back to you through the holiday season, but hopefully you'll land a job that you can have fun at.
Keep us posted and I hope everything comes together for you.

This is a very uplifting video and I feel much more (mentally) centered whenever I listen to it. Louise Hay video lasting about 40 minutes.

Thank you. To all of you. I know I'm not alone in this world, and I'm not a danger to myself...I'm just a bit lonely, and feeling down. I appreciate everyone's efforts in trying to lift me up :)

I hope you are receiving unemployment benefits which do help a bit :).

Seasonal Affective Disorder- look it up.

Less light plus crappy weather makes you depressed and disrupts sleep- which makes you more depressed.

Look into Light therapy- it actually works.

Phil, I googled this and read a bit about it and it covers more than I really thought it would. This should be paid attention to by many more people. You brought something to my attention. I have known a few people that have experienced this. Their depression started like this and then it progressed from this over years. Thanks for the very good information
