    Go to http://www.google.com

Type in weapons of mass destruciton

    Click "I'm Feeling Lucky"

Read that error message very carefully.

Wonder how much hate mail they're getting for THAT one

Google works much more predictably when words are spelled correctly.  Were you intending to search for weapons of mass DESTRUCTION, not destruciton?

The "error message" you get when searching for the properly spelled query is not that at all.  It is a gag page, made to look like a 404 error, put up by Anthony Cox.  He identifies it as his work at the very bottom of the "error" page. If you check the links, it is actually advertising topical books from amazon.com. I don't think Google has anyting to do with this.

The misspelled query brings you to the page of a financial analysis board, where the members apparently have trouble spelling.

Um yes, that's a typo. It's supposed to be DESTRUCTION.

And aha! thanks for the explanation eric!

I was just kidding about the typo!

The "error page" is actually a pretty good joke! Just in case things change at google, and the page no longer comes up from the "I'm feeling lucky" button, you can view it directly here:

The link works fine. You get what looks like a "Not Found" error page, which you may have interpreted to believe the link didn't work. But if you read it carefully, you will see it is not the regular error screen, but a parody about WMD.
