I am a deep, proud, stoic kinda guy. It takes powerful stimuli to reach my emotions, and extremely powerful ones to make me cry. With the exception of this morning, I have not cried in almost 9 months.
Today, I watched Prayers for Bobby (from LifeTime) and cried. Hard.
Go watch it, and come back to read the next spot *spoilers*.
Bobby's parents are mirrors of mine. The super religious, bible quoting mother, and the less religious, though not as pious, father.
Bobby's actions are a close mirror to mine. Discovered his true sexuality, only really acted on them when away from his parents. Like Bobby, I also once attempted suicide, though for different reasons, and obviously, not successfully.
As I watched this movie, my brain instantly drew the lines, and this movie basically just permeated me. So at the turning point of the movie (the jump) , and then at the second one (the speech by his mom) , I was ripped open and I just short of sobbed. I had to pause the movie twice, as I was unable to see the screen 2 feet away.
I suggest that everyone watch this movie, and attempt to understand the message. It is a powerful film.
