Exactly! In real fraternities, it doesn't happen. There were a few brothers in my fraternity that I would have done in a heartbeat as well, but it was a no go zone. One guy who came out was chased out of the fraternity by some of the brothers. Since graduating, I know of 4 others that have come out. They wouldn't have waited so long to come out if fraternities were gay friendly institutions.

There was no paddling, either. It was probably the most hetero situation I've ever been in--with was the exception of the military. There was enough testosterone in both places to cause spontaneous combustion, but none of the 'sexual tension' that seems to be part of today's sexual fantasies about both environments.

The fraternity I belonged to is one of the top 5 nationals, and we had a roster of 82 actives, and the house boarded and housed about 25 or so. It was an academic, athletic, and party house with a good mix of all kinds of guys--'face men', nerds, jocks, sexual cutters and the not-so-much, city and country--with some bikers and greasers as well. A lot must have changed...

It was at a frat I pledged. And yes, things have changed.

As part of the pledge period/hazing aspect of my fraternity, we were told expressly that we did not have to take out our cocks for any brother. I never did nor was asked to. That said, it would not surprise me at all if it happened in places, notwithstanding the homophobic atmosphere in many/most fraternities (which I wonder is a defense mechanism to guard against thoughts or accusations that come from living in such environments where women are welcomed only for sexual purposes and men are encouraged to bond as brothers and get extremely close on almost every level except for sex). A lot of the hazing has to do about control and abuse and getting laughs, and so it would not surprise me if pledges were required to suck cock (and did it) and that they would do it out of a desperate need to join and belong. As I said, it didn't happen at mine, but I could see it happening (especially in the wee hours after lots of alcohol).

The only nudity I remember in the 2 month pledge period was we had to do a nude relay race in which we had to push a grape with our noses about 30 feet across a room and then pick it up with our butt cheeks and carry it back to the starting line. And, yes, I think everyone might have used the same grape.

That, and on the night we officially became "brothers," they would hire a stripper to come strip.

It was all fun then, but I would not want to do it again, and I would not want my sons to join one.

I've heard of it from a straight, very reliable source. He said he ended up hating it. They started small, with easy tasks that are only slightly embarrassing, and then increase the intensity as it goes on, from what I understand. Nobody's going to jump right in doing the hardest, most physical, most naked thing. They ease you into it. Or at least that was my buddy's experience. Before he knew it, he was giving handjobs and oral once. That's about the time he bailed.

I don't think it's overly common. However, many of these types of things have a kernel of truth to them somewhere. You only need to google it; it's in the news every once in a while. Sexual or overtly painful/physical hazing does occur. The fraternity as a whole might not condone it, but like levi101 said, it's up to the leadership and the examples of the particular branch.

Are their outliers in any population? Yes. Is sexual contact the norm in US fraternities? Absolutely not! I would guess that any alcohol-fueled handjobs or oral would take place in a rogue, one on one situation. I guarantee that in none of the mainstream fraternities will you find forced sexual gratification. Might someone end up streaking around the block after losing a bet, or a naked cleanup? Possibly. But anything involving getting a brother off - no matter how gradual the lead up - in a group, sanctioned by leadership is pure gay fantasy. Yes, you read about some stupid hazing, but they never include a pledge being required to suck cock. Those of us that are actually members know this.

I'm with Templar90 on this. I was in a fraternity and was both in chapter leadership, national leadership and university IFC leadership (all to say that I have a broad exposure base). I've had many, many drunken conversations with other fraternity men, both my own and every other major US fraternity, about the activities we'd seen or participated in. People admitted to some very embarrassing stuff but I've never once heard a reliable story about anyone personally seeing the "magic muffin" (pizza, bagel, whatever) or handjobs or oral or getting fucked or anything of the sort. They've all been urban legends we tell about "that other house". Has it happened somewhere at some point? Sure, everything has happened somewhere but I'm surmising that statistically-speaking it's pure fantasy.

Not to belabor the point but I don't think it can easily be dismissed as gay fantasy and that's that. Near where I live most of a high school football team was suspended for hazing, making others eat donuts from off/around their penises. And every once in a while a story crops up in the news about a fraternity being investigated or arrests being made due to overly sexualized hazing practices at college. A fraternity may not condone those things as a whole, but individual chapters might. Or even individual members of a chapter. It may not be a widespread of common phenomena, but when it's in the news, that means it's happening somewhere.
