I think that men didn't feel the need to prove their heterosexuality in straight porn in the 70's and 80's like today. Subconsciously, there was nothing to prove. So, a little more male-to-male contact wasn't going to change how they were perceived in the porn world (though, there never was any kissing, sucking, etc).

There seems to be a real lack of porn in this genre.
