Is it bad for a guy to have a hourglass figure? I have really broad shoulders and wide hips..no matter how much a excise it just seems to extenuate my hourglass figure.....

Well, lets see. IF you are HUNG, nothing else seems to matter. LOL
Let the sands of time fall where they may...

Sorry but the male ''hourglass'' thing really made me lol. Jessica Rabbit popped into my head with a man's face for some reason. LMAO!
There's nothing wrong with it ... but I wouldn't use the term "hourglass figure," which implies a much more feminine, curvy shape.
Bodybuilders aim for what they call an "X" shape where the chest and hips are much wider than the waist. For serious lifters the taper of the X is a big deal, with a difference of more than 10 inches between chest and waist measurements being highly desirable.
Last time I measured, my stats were something like 47-35-42 ... which is pretty respectable as Xs go.
Steve
men are typically supposed to follow the "V" shape. broad shoulders and ribcage and it all narrows to the hips. but i dont think it really matters at all as long as youre in shape.
Yeah...I kinda got that image too...I think "hourglass" is not exactly the word he is looking for. Too many people like to say that the "hourglass" thing is strictly for women, which tends to make a lot of men fee pretty, um...un-manly. With my body shape (broader shoulders, small waist, and regular hips), it's kinda easy for a guy to get a little upset. Reminds me of a time when a female friend jokingly said "I hate you! You would look better in a dress than I do!" Ouch! Talk about a major insult to a guy's manhood!

If it truly extenuates the effect then it shouldn't bother you at all.
If, however, it accentuates the effect that would be another matter altogether.
