Is it a voodoo curse, or do y'all just forget to water them? Not enough sun?

Aphids?

I think those who don't have a "green thumb" just may be applying what are general plant growing techniques to plants that need more specific kinds of care.

People who kill succulents tend to over water, people who have orchids water too much and repot them into actual soil which drowns the roots.

Different types of plants need different things, and depending on your environment different house plants will be more or less likely to survive.

I'm amazed I've had any orchids survive more than a year in my climate. I just have them in their own section of the house with a humidifier and the right amount of sun/ventilation. If I tried to keep them with my other plants, they'd have died by now.

My cacti/succulents are right next to a double glass door that we permanently shut so that it's only used as a window for my plants. They get All the sun All day, and I only water them once the soil has completely dried.

Most of my plants I've had for years now. All it takes it some research, and a desire to take care of them for the sake of seeing them live.

Everyone kills a few. Every. One. I won't deny, I've actually shed tears over some that I've lost. I really love my plants.

Oh, and I have to share my saddened heart over the STUNNING rubber plant I found yesterday. We went to go get more fencing for the dogs yard, and of course... A huge, amazing, healthy Beautiful rubber plant was just calling me.

Too expensive :sob:

If I had the extra $50 I would have got that fucker. I'm still happy with my succulents, but oh MAN I wanted that thing so bad.

Lets see:
I have about 5-7 tropicana "canna" lilies in the front yard. Mixed in with about 5-7 day lilies.

Then right against the house 2 more tropicana "canna" lilies with 6 Loropetalum Chinese 'Red Diamond' (Chinese Fringe Flower).

In the backyard there only about 7 hostas.

On the backporch I've been trying my best to create a suitable environment to grow 2 Cordylines/Japanese Ti plant. Its not going so well with the drought, months with 100+ degree temps and the fact they really only like high humidity zones and distilled purified water from the highest mountain. Little fuckers are hard as shit to keep alive.

This got damn drought needs to end already. All my outdoor plants are suffering badly.

A picture of my cordylines:

The lack of rain/drought/100+ degree temps are wreaking havoc on them.

MY SHARRY BABY HAS A NEW FLOWER SPIKE!!

Some of my orchids are a few years old now, I enjoy the flowers while they last but none of my phalaenopsis have bloomed since the initial flowers fell.

I'm so excited, I love the adorable little flowers and they smell so good.. like chocolate and vanilla, kinda creamy kinda strong. I love it.

Bumpy bump...

So I couldn't help myself. I ordered two more Laelia, two different varieties from the one I already got.

I know, I know... I was gonna get the Bellina but they aren't currently available for shipping because the nurseries I've found that have them for sale are all located in Hawaii. During winter there's too big of a risk that they won't survive the cold transport.

But the nursery I get the Laelias and other rarer orchids is in California. Not only is it closer, but Laelia orchids are much more tolerant of the cold because rather than tropical areas with lower elevations they grow in mountainous areas in more temperate climates. So they'll be fine if they get cold for a couple nights on the truck.

Hi, so you're planning to green your garden to turn it into a great source of food that it will later bring? Since I am a gardener (like the whole family) I can only recommend planting the right flowers that can not only give beauty to your garden but also give a fresh smell. If you want to do something like this I recommend that you use a site that will give you the information you need.

Plants are amazing.

Those green lil buddies actually cool ya house down. My habit of having small jungles in my living space came from growing up in the hot and sticky south. Plants soak up hot air and help balance humidity.

Just got my new Rareseeds.com/Baker Creek Heirloom Seed book!

I need all the growing things! My garden was/is mostly planned out and my seedlings are getting big enough to go outdoors. Then this botanical bomb lands at my feet. I really, honestly, deeply need purple everything in my garden and sunburst beets.

This must be how it felt when porn mags were delivered to your house.
