Next week congress will debate an apology for slavery.

FWIW: I don't care about an apology, a mule, 2 acres, a compensation check, or any other form of reparation.

Since everybody and they mama have an opinion on black Americans, I thought it'd be interesting to see who knows about our history. Since many people base their opinions of black America on rap videos and can't write 2 paragraphs about black history (but can write 2 pages on their views of black Americans), I've included hints with some of the questions.

Let's play 20 EASY questions: Slavery and her sister, Institutional Racism, and black America. Feel free to skip any ones you can't answer, none of us are perfect.

*Google helps, but some of these will be easily answered if you paid attention in US History class, assuming black history didn't put you to sleep.

1. How was Christopher Columbus introduced to slavery?
Hint: he didn't have to go to America to find it.

2. How many blacks were transported from Africa to America between the 16th and 19th century?

3. What were the 3 points of this particular triangular slave trade?
Hint: It was important to bar rooms in London where the early Royal Society met.

4. What year did the transatlantic slave trade of Africans to America begin?
Hint: Isaac Newton wasn't born yet.

5. How did the practice of slavery effect the US economy?
Hint: It probably didn't hurt it.

6. How did the abolishment of slavery affect the US economy?
Hint: It probably hurt it.

7. How has diaspora affected black genealogy?
Hint: This is a really easy fucking question.

8. Name one historically significant accomplishment of black slaves.
*Hint, Jesus H. Christ wasn't white.

9. Define 'institutional racism'.
Hint: It's a literal term, no hidden meanings.

10. Explain the modern "cycle" of poverty in the US.
*Hint, this affects every poor group, not just blacks.

11. What southern high school(s) still holds segregated proms; a black prom and a white prom?

12. LOTS of black women have degrees, what % of them have management/ceo/etc.. positions in the US?

13. What percentage of black children grow up without a father?

14. What's the fundemental difference between Dr. Martin Luther King and Malcolm X?
Hint: You can answer this with one sentence, just compare their personas.

15. How are those folks down in New Orleans doing? Are they back on their feet yet?
Hint: Doing a Yahoo News or Google News search for 'Hurricane Katrina' or 'New Orleans' will give u recent update.

16. Who was the first black candidate for President in the US?
Hint: SHE was also the first female to seek the Dem. nomination. 1972

17. In 2008 what % of Americans admitted that race affects their vote?

18. Name atleast one anti-black/white supremacist group OTHER THAN THE KKK.

19. Name one advantage of Affirmative Action.

20. Name one disadvantage of Affirmative Action.

BONUS: At what point in time did the generational effects of slavery/racism dissipate? AKA; In which generation/time period/decade did blacks convert from "acknowledged victims of opppression" to "lazy bums who just want handouts". Be specific, please and thank you.

*Like I said, skip any ones you don't know, just write the answer along with with the corresponding question #. For the sake of space, it'll look neater easier if you don't copy/paste the entire question

njqt466 sit's back and waits for the resident racists to emerge.

FWIW: That's not a criticism Marley these are excellent and fairly basic questions. I never had a black history class and I knew most of the answers off the top of my head. There were one or two that kinda threw me though.

I'm not playing their games anymore. I'll give them 2 strikes to address their views diplomatically, by the third anti-black comment I'm just putting them on ignore. I wish them luck though, getting through college without a good understanding of black history. I know some 6th graders who'd would have already finished and would be watching WWF by now.

Me too, there were about 5 I was downright wrong on, and I WROTE these questions!

1. (Guessing) In the West Indies. But I do know he "found" North America by accident.

2. I'm guessing about 12 million.

3. Africa, Europe, West Indies.

4. Some time in the 1600's

5. Cheap labor combined with abundant land and crops ( not to mention the king's love of tobacco ) makes every pilgrim happy.

7. Don't even know why this is a question. Gave way to more various shades of blacks and pretty much eliminated anyone who considers themselves a "pure blooded _____"

9. Racism comitted by some social/institutionalized entity that may or may not be on purpose.

12. About 5 % ?

14. MLK was peaceful while Malcom was easily characterized by his "any means necessary" message. However, many ignore that after his pilgrimage to Mecca, he became more and more like Dr. King. This was one way of breaking his ties with the militant sects of Islam, also evident in the name change to Malik Shebazz.

15. No.

17. 16 % if I remember correctly.

18. Aryan brotherhood.

19. Blacks get a chance.

20. In some (maybe many) cases the bias is reversed.

On #13, I know that 60% of black fathers are purposely absent, but I don't know how that translates into percentage of children.

#19. It forces employers to give everyone a chance.
#20. The quotas often mismatched the population distribution, resulting in someone else getting the short end. i.e.: Requiring a 10% black staffing in 95% white district.

The rest I'm admittedly fuzzy on or simply don't know. History has never been my strongest subject, regardless of race. Though I am fairly certain that the use of Africans as slaves began right in Africa.

I want to try

1. How was Christopher Columbus introduced to slavery?
Hint: he didn't have to go to America to find it.
I have no idea...I know Romans had slaves...but that was maybe 1000 years before Columbus.

2. How many blacks were transported from Africa to America between the 16th and 19th century?
3 million?

3. What were the 3 points of this particular triangular slave trade?
Hint: It was important to bar rooms in London where the early Royal Society met.
West Africa with slaves....Caribbean/Eastern seaboard with tobacco and sugar grown by slaves.... and Europe the consumers of these products

4. What year did the transatlantic slave trade of Africans to America begin?
Hint: Isaac Newton wasn't born yet.
I was going to guess 1700, but #2 says starting from the 16th century...so I'll say 1590

5. How did the practice of slavery effect the US economy?
Hint: It probably didn't hurt it.
It enabled the development of America and the 1st world. To this day slavery lives on in the form of 3rd world sweatshops

6. How did the abolishment of slavery affect the US economy?
Hint: It probably hurt it.
Prices probably skyrocketed now that the workers of the land were entitled wages.

7. How has diaspora affected black genealogy?
Hint: This is a really easy fucking question.
Black people in the America's are all mixed with whoever lives int he region they are living in....mostly natives and europeans

8. Name one historically significant accomplishment of black slaves.
*Hint, Jesus H. Christ wasn't white.
Turners rebellion...I like how violent he was

9. Define 'institutional racism'.
Hint: It's a literal term, no hidden meanings.
I dunno...but the fact that people on crack get longer sentences than those on coke probably has some connection.

10. Explain the modern "cycle" of poverty in the US.
*Hint, this affects every poor group, not just blacks.
People who are born in poverty are given few real options to ever rise out of poverty, despite what the media portrays.

11. What southern high school(s) still holds segregated proms; a black prom and a white prom?
I dunno...the ones in Mississippi, Alabama and South Carolina

12. LOTS of black women have degrees, what % of them have management/ceo/etc.. positions in the US?
15%

13. What percentage of black children grow up without a father?
55%

14. What's the fundemental difference between Dr. Martin Luther King and Malcolm X?
Hint: You can answer this with one sentence, just compare their personas.
Malcom X condoned violence in his youth

15. How are those folks down in New Orleans doing? Are they back on their feet yet?
Hint: Doing a Yahoo News or Google News search for 'Hurricane Katrina' or 'New Orleans' will give u recent update.
New Orleans is doing alright economically. People from New Orleans haven't really returned. Corporate America has reconstructed the city in one of the greatest white washings ever.

16. Who was the first black candidate for President in the US?
Hint: SHE was also the first female to seek the Dem. nomination. 1972

17. In 2008 what % of Americans admitted that race affects their vote?
45%

18. Name atleast one anti-black/white supremacist group OTHER THAN THE KKK.
Aryan Brotherhood Gang

19. Name one advantage of Affirmative Action.
People who would otherwise not get a chance to rise out of their economically depressed neighborhood, get a chance.

20. Name one disadvantage of Affirmative Action.
It is discriminatory in itself....a person with better test scores and skills may get passed up for a job to give someone with lesser skills an opportunity based on skin color. It seems like a twisted lottery rather than a real solution.

why is it so important that everyone knows about black history?

It's not. No one held a gun to your head and said "learn this". Did you offer this same opposition when your high-school teachers taught you these things?

why do we need a good understanding of black history to get through college?

U must not be in college. They most certainly address this aspect of American history.

im sure you will in some way be offended by this, and that shouldnt be..but honestly... wtf??

Not offended, I feel sorry for you that you're this threatened by black history.

how about some white history, you need a good understanding of white history!!...

First of all, I know plenty of white history. What can you tell me about the famine/drought in Russia? About vikings? About the depression or prohibition? If you want to teach me about the white history I'm already aware of, either hold a gun to my head and force me to read it, or make your own 20 questions thread. I promise won't shit all over it with incoherent drivel about the irrelevance of it. ALL history is relevant.

BRICK! Next time keep your feet planted, bend your knees, and use your fingertips and you're sure to get it in the hoop!

imagine if we had a Tv channel called WET, white entertainment television, HAHAHAHA, lawsuits up the ass for that company, ,,but BET is perfectly fine, double standards everywhere, black stand up comedy , perfect example, every other joke is makin fun of white people.. but its ok, were the majority, preach on

Why didn't you submit that as an answer to #20?

I promised everyone two chances, this is ur last one. The next time you make a mindless, unintelligent, condescending post, I'm gonna be forced to stop giving you the attention you sorely desire.

You're the first person to mention black history month, and it's entirely off topic. And I don't remember anyone telling you that you're required to spend February drinking 40 ounces, wearing FUBU, and dancing to Rihanna.

thats the bigges bunch of bullshit ever, sorry.. and no im not racist, i know you dont believe me though

Yeah, you're not racist, you just feel that a month that represents black history is cramming it down your throat. You're the lamest anarchist-wanna-be I've ever met. There are real battles to fight out there, BHM ain't one of em.

i voiced my opinion , im entitled to that, this is america right?

Yeah, I've been trying to kindly prevent you from making more of an ass of yourself than you already have, but my determination is no match for your ability to sound irrational and ignorant.

or are you gona call hate crime on me now and try and sue me? lighten up

A person offended by BHM is telling me to lighten up? And why would I "call you a hate crime?" As far as threats go, your a code "nothing" on black America's radar.

That's strike three, until you start addressing the questions, I'm gonna do like everybody else has (who didn't even give you a chance to redeem yourself) and just ignore you. Before I turn and walk away, would you like a juicebox or your Speak-N-Spell from off the kitchen counter? J/K, I'm gonna stop opening your responses, I've got electro-shockers attached to my nipples that go off everytime I hit "view post".
